Thanks for the vid clip..

Just goes to show, the fire dept. could have used a 20 ft. ladder to reach the dog without ever endangering themselves or civilians.
They just didn't give a damn about the dog.

FireFighters should have thrown the dog back in the fire and shut door.

Spoken like a cat lover! ;)

"I guess that it is ok to send volunteers, residents, and criminals from prisons to fight forest fires, but it is frowned on to have a man go safely rescue his pet when firefighters tell him, "Sorry ya gotta watch the dog cook at yer window cause its just too hot for us to go do it right now...hey could ya pass the marshmellows over there."

This is absolutely the way it should be viewed. This is an unnecessary leaning on citizens for no good reason. No one was endangered and they didn't want to bother with a dog. If it was too dangerous for them they should be allowed to avoid the job but if the owner wanted to risk his life he should also be allowed to do so. We have too many people already in jail to boost the jail production of items which compete in the marketplace against the same items made commercially in this nation by people who pay taxes on their earnings for making those items.

If you don't want to put your ass on the line, then find a safer way to make your money.

Exactly. I'm tired of hearing all this "for their safety" BS.

Our Freedom is more important than their safety.

If the JBTs don't like it, they can go to Russia, Mexico, or China, where their "safety" is considered more important than the Freedom of the citizens there.

During the Gold Rush / railroad-building days of the 1800's a Chinese woman arrived via ship in San Francisco with a baby in her arms. She had been pregnant when the ship left, and gave birth en route; accordingly, she had a visa for herself, but not for her child.

On this basis, an immigration official tried to block the child's entry to the US. After much begging and pleading, he finally telegraphed his headquarters in Washington to ask whether to prevent the child's admission.

The reply was brief and to-the-point: "Don't be a damned fool."

I respectfully submit that the actions of the authorities in this situation fail the Don't-be-a-damned-fool Test.

The law's there for a reason.

Yes, to prevent exposure to liability and jury awards. It isn't going in after the guy IF he is overcome that they are worried about, it is the potential lawsuits if they DON'T... unless you want to assert that firemen aren't adequately trained to enter burning apartment buildings (which, of course, would be false if they could be found to have a duty to go after the guy).

And so is jury nullification.

And so are lawsuits for false arrest. I hope this guy's lawyer cleans them out! (Ye Gods! Me...rooting for a lawyer!)

backdraft, I know what "could have" happened

Actually, if you look at the video, the fire has already burned through several walls and the roof. There was zero danger of a backdraft (or "explosion" as my local news just reported), as access to unlimited oxygen had already been established (unless, of course, the firemen try to assert that TWO DIFFERENT fires were burning simultaneously in two different parts of the same building).

The worst thing in the mind of most gov't workers is when someone demonstrates that they really aren't needed

That should be someone's tagline.

There was zero danger of a backdraft

If a firefighter says there was danger, THERE WAS DANGER since his opinion trumps all the laws of physics...

2+2=5

Good post! Here's another question for them: If a dog, a family pet, is not equal to a human life, then why should someone who assaults a police dog be charged with assaulting a "police officer"? Is the life of a government owned dog worth more than a private citizen's dog?

Go back and read the article.

He never entered the building.
He was told not to go into the building and he didn't. He climbed the 16 to 18 ft. up to his balcony, OUTSIDE the building, and rescued his dog.
Something ANY one of those firefighters could have done with a simple 20 ft. ladder.
He did not disobey a lawful order. ( "leter of the law". The order not not specific concerning climbing the outside of the building.)
Disorderly conduct. ( His "conducted" actions showed more intelligence and resource than the "trained" professionals on the scene, who had obviously forgotten how to use a ladder. )
Likewise, reckless endangerment. ( He never "entered", so they would not have had to "enter" either. He was on a balcony, some 18 ft. away. )

Those people were just uncaring idiots, out to get someone that made them look bad.
And evidently, they were also caught on tape by local media, and shown up for what they are.

"Man Who Saves Dog Gets Calls Of Support
A Nashville man who rescued his dog from a burning apartment Wednesday has received calls of support from across the country.
Jarrod Martin, 26, said calls from as far as New York and Florida have come in congratulating him for his daring rescue during the fire.
The Premier Apartments, in west Nashville, went up in flames Wednesday. Martin broke through police lines, scaled up the building to his balcony and pulled his dog to safety.

I predict that this whole matter will be dropped as the
heat generated by public outcry increases. These bureaucratic
a-holes don't have what it takes to withstand the withering
fire that they're going to receive. Just stay tuned.

Martin ran toward the burning building, climbed to his second-story balcony, broke out a window and got the dog. ''He was pressed up against the glass as it was,'' Martin said last night. ''The fire was coming right toward him.''

It doesn't sound like he ran into the burning building. He broke a glass put one arm in and pulled out the dog. Being burnt alive is the WORST death imaginable. That is cruelty to watch a animal being burned alive. I can't believe one firefighter couldn't tell the man he could at least break the glass so the dog could've jumped out to the second story balcony himself if the firefighters knew there was no firefighters in there.

This isn't about "hatred" of pets, it's about priorities. Unfortunately, dog lovers, the life of a firefighter trumps the life of a dog, no matter how dear a pet.

It's not the firefighters who are at fault here, but the police. The homeowner in this case accepted the personal risk involved in rescuing his dog, knowing that the firefighters were busy looking for people. The cops have no right arresting him for this, and their case will be laughed out of court.
