The cops arrest a guy who just lost his home to a fire because he went in to resucue his beloved dog? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. These police today take themselves waaay too seriously in these type of situations. I believe in police, law and order; but I think we are living in very unusual times for America. Everyone is a "criminal" these days. The war on terror aside, the police have been given too much authority. Was a time when a cop would have to think twice about arresting a citizen without good cause. If this man was a woman they'd call her a hero for her actions even if it caused a team of firefighters to go in and rescue her, (does the name Jessica Lynch ring a bell?). This is just disgusting.

That was back when they were "peace officers" instead of "law enforcement officers".

There are still some great ones out there who truly honor their oaths to "protect and serve", but the percentage is declining as more and more thugs and revenue agents are hired.

Many cops cause far more problems than they solve.

During the Gold Rush / railroad-building days of the 1800's a Chinese woman arrived via ship in San Francisco with a baby in her arms. She had been pregnant when the ship left, and gave birth en route; accordingly, she had a visa for herself, but not for her child.

On this basis, an immigration official tried to block the child's entry to the US. After much begging and pleading, he finally telegraphed his headquarters in Washington to ask whether to prevent the child's admission.

The reply was brief and to-the-point: "Don't be a damned fool."

I respectfully submit that the actions of the authorities in this situation fail the Don't-be-a-damned-fool Test.

Kudos on your comments especially this.

So true. We are all suspicious of one another... and encouraged to be even more so as the media places group against group and politicians use deceit, hyperbole and out and out treachery to force their agendas on the unwitting and unwilling masses.

Do nothing. We will take care of you.
