Interesting...

People suffering from obsessive-compulsive behaviours, such as washing their hands 20 times a day, are now feeling vindicated by the government admonitions, says psychiatrist Sing Lee. "They feel normal now"I guess every black coud has a silver lining.

If Hong Kong can put this back in its box, after as many cases as they had, then the rest of the developed world can too. That would mean the developed world can beat SARS.
The rest of China is another story. Likewise for the slums of Calcutta, or Mexico City.

Good observation bump.

Overnight, per loin brought up the monkey vector point...monkeys as I understand it are common in India (and elsewhere) and per loin said that they freely interact with humans.
Monkeys can be infected with the virus and have the same illness AND spread it just as humans do, at least in the lab.
That's why per loin asked in another post what the primate population is...iirc.

I don't think Hong Kong can beat it without closing all entry from the rest of China.

The territory is reeling from news that 19 patients died in the past two days, including 12 on Saturday, the highest daily toll yet. Yes, 12 Saturday, 7 Sunday, and now 6 more today.

Living with SARS is not my idea of living.

How would we keep SARS from crossing the border and spreading across the entire country if any part of Mexico is infected?

How would we keep SARS from crossing the border and spreading across the entire country if any part of Mexico is infected? Let's hope we never find out. If SARS spread through the slums of Mexico City, the entire nation of Mexico would be at risk. A "few" folks might decide to head north. Most would be healthy, but some would be sick.

You're one of those pesky rhetorical questioners, I see...;-D

Heh heh,what can I say?
If SARS spreads in Mexico, there will be a lot of Mexicans heading North for our free health care along with the typical border crossers.
As bad as SARS is looking,I really can't see much of any way to dodge the bullet.
I hope someone comes up with some good ideas pretty quick or things are likely to get mighty rough for awhile.
