Did Clinton pardon Arab murderer? Farah on Arafat's campaign for the release of Abu Abbas

Bill Clinton is known for many things.

He's known for using his powerful office to take advantage of women.

He's known for doing everything in his power to undermine national security.

He's known for putting his own legacy ahead of America's best interests.

He's known for abusing the civil rights of Americans to further his own narrow political ambitions.

He's known for ignoring and even covering up the growing threat of Islamo-terrorism during his administration.

He's known demanding that America's one real ally in the Middle East bend over backward to make concessions to her enemies, while demanding nothing in return from them.

He's known for self-adulation.

He's known for criticizing his predecessors and his successors in an effort to elevate his own stature.

He's known for an incongruent foreign policy.

He's known for pardoning criminals who have bestowed political and personal favors upon him.

He's known for all these things and more.

What he hasn't been known for until now is pardoning a known murderer of U.S. civilians in one of the most heinous acts of terrorism in American history.

But that's just what his friends in the Palestinian Authority say he did in signing a 1995 accord with Israel that granted amnesty for all Palestinian insurgents. The PA says this agreement effectively pardoned Abu Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Liberation Front, who organized the hijacking of the Achille Lauro Italian cruise ship and personally threw wheelchair-bound American citizen Leon Klinghoffer overboard, presumably because he was Jewish.

Acts like the Achille Lauro hijacking and our impotent reaction to them inevitably led directly to Sept. 11.

Yasser Arafat and his friends in the PA have now launched a campaign for the release of Abbas, who was recently picked up by American troops in Iraq.

Arafat aide Saeb Erekat said the arrest of Abu Abbas, head of the Palestine Liberation Front, violates the 1995 accord with Israel that granted amnesty for all Palestinian insurgents. Erekat said the agreement was also signed by then-President Bill Clinton.

"The Palestinian-Israeli interim agreement signed Sept. 28, 1995, stated that members of the Palestine Liberation Organization must not be detained or tried for matters they committed before the Oslo peace accord of Sept. 13, 1993," said Arafat aide Saeb Erekat. "This interim agreement was signed on the U.S. side by President Clinton and his secretary of state, Warren Christopher."

The PA said the U.S. capture of Abu Abbas was illegal and that he had never been sought by American authorities. Officials asserted the State Department had determined in the late 1990s that it did not have grounds to seek Abu Abbas's extradition from the Gaza Strip.

PA officials said Israel had not sought the extradition of Abu Abbas during his stay in the Gaza Strip in 1998. They cited a determination by Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein that Abbas does not pose a threat to Israeli security.

The United States has denied that Abu Abbas was granted immunity from prosecution. U.S. officials did say that the State Department was examining options regarding the PLF leader. So far, they said, the State Department has contacted Italy, which issued a warrant for his arrest.

"We are currently looking at a variety of options to ensure he's brought to justice," State Department deputy spokesman Philip Reeker said. "The United States believes that all terrorists should be brought to justice for their crimes, so obviously, this will be a matter of discussion with the government of Italy."

Once again we see the consequences of failed leadership by Bill Clinton.

Not only did Clinton set the stage for the terrorism our country witnessed on Sept. 11, 2001, we are still suffering as a nation from the profoundly bad decisions this man made while president. He is still haunting us with his enabling of evil men with evil intentions toward America.

It's time to break the cycle of political co-dependency Clinton created.

It's time to renounce those agreements he made that compromised the security of the United States.

It's time to reject the failed policies of the past – especially his coddling of the Palestinian Authority.

It's time to admit these people do not deserve a state of their own.

It's time to recognize they are our enemies.

It's time to see through the veneer of lies and distortion and, finally, do what's right – four our country and for all freedom-loving people in the Middle East.

Isn't the jury out on exactly what Clinton signed? I have yet to see a specific document that said anything at all about US prosecution of anybody: didn't he simply sign as a witness to an agreement between Israel and the PLO, an agreement that the PLO promptly violated as soon as the ink was dry?

Yeah, we signed as a witness, not as a player. So Clinton is not guilty of signing away Americas rights. He is guilty of however being a party to it, and one of the ones that pushed it through to grant amnesty to the terrorist from Israel. And I would guess he also put the idea across to stop hunting the perp down as it would be "unhelpful" to Middle East peace.

Funny how letting terrorist's slide was the halmark of the Democrats idea for peace in the Middle East...

Abbas and his henchmen shot at US soldiers in Iraq as a PLO agent working for Saddam. He is a terrorist.

As for the Achille Lauro incident and the Oslo process, Arafat and his cronies have violated it continuously, so it is invalid. They did not keep their part of the deal.

Enough said.

Dems just think we can all pay our debts to terrorists and their friends, and not to the US system. That is their way of handling tax payers' money. Not good.

Yes, it sure was. And such policies of appeasement, reflected in gross derelictions of duty such as Clinton's failure to go after Al Queda in any form other than theatrical non-attacks (timed to drown out publicity of his own corruption), led directly to 9/11.

I can't believe that the man still has a public forum, he is like some sick combination of OJ and the Energizer Bunny.

We are doing well. The business is growing again, and the First lady is secure at the moment in her employment. Maybe the economy is about to turn around?

Take care of yourself.
