China has banned tourists from visiting country and remote areas in an effort to prevent the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
The Xinhua newsagency says the ban has been imposed by China's national tourism administration.
Officials fear a disaster, if there is an uncontrolled outbreak of SARS in rural, impoverished areas where good medical facilities are lacking.
Already, SARS cases have been reported in 19 of China's 31 provinces and municipalities.
A national tourism and trade fair scheduled for early June in eastern Zhejiang province has now been postponed until next year.
China has reported 97 deaths from the flu-like virus and 2,158 infections. The global death toll stands at 236.

Can any Medical types give an answer to the question of this virus reoccuring in an individual who has recoverd from SARS? Also, can these masks really stop a virus? Bacteria and dust particles are much bigger.

Similar coronaviruses, including that for the common cold in humans, can recur in individuals. As for masks, they can certainly stop sputum and droplets of saliva. Those may be the only ways the disease can be communicated through the air -- there is no evidence yet that the virus itself is truly airborne.
I'm not a medical person, so don't count on what I say being necessarily right.

Interferon has been of questionable efficacy in the use of treating the Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus in cats. The medical community has suggested Ribovirin and interferon as a treatment; Good luck......

Worse. They now believe it can permanently damage your lungs (scar tissue?). This alone would lead to so many more problems.

Then why am I hearing 200 cases?

The CDC news conference a couple of hours ago was scary!
CNN is having a special with Paula tonight on SARS.
It continues to be delicious to search and find all the old hits on the terrorists and their connections to biotech companies.
A guy on FOX just said that there were SARS case(s) in Loudon County, Virginia before China said they had them.
Do you know anthing about that?

A guy on FOX just said that there were SARS case(s) in Loudon County, Virginia before China said they had them SARS seems to have been in China since about November, I am guessing the reporter was in error.

This is serious - really, and not just series! If the Chinese government is finally showing this type of concern publicly, things must be pretty bad.

Did anyone else have a big "Hmmmmm?" I did indeed...with commies it's always hard to discern between ineptitude and malfeasance. Is this simply Chinese population policy taken to the next level?
Don't attribute to malice that which can be attributed to inadequate sanitation and healthcare facilities in a densely populated area. South/southeast China has been the source of many new illnesses over the years.

There was an article about her. She went back to China for the first time in many years and came back with sars. She I believe is fine now. IIRC none of her family got it from her. She plans to never go back again.

I wonder what I thought I heard that guy on FOX say?I hope he is on again. He was from some kind of bio-terror business.
If he did say that Loudoun County Virginia had 2 SARS before China said they had any and he is wrong, what kind of a business is he running?
If he is right , and Virginia had SARS before November, what does that mean?
Of course the answer may be I am koo-koo!

There was a case of SARS in Loudoun County a couple of weeks ago (the woman has recovered.) But I think that was well after China admitted having cases of SARS (it was before they admitted the numbers, of course.)

SARS threat to AIDS sufferers
Wednesday 23 April 2003, 6:05 AM
The SARS virus could kill many more people if it takes hold among China's AIDS sufferers, an Australian immunologist warned.
Queensland University Professor John McKenzie, currently in Hong Kong investigating the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), said there was a possibility AIDS sufferers could become super-spreaders of the virus because their bodies could not fight it.
But the effect of the virus on those with AIDS could not yet be predicted, he said.
"Certainly they'd be more susceptible," Prof McKenzie told ABC television.
"Certainly the virus would not be controlled in the body so readily by the body's defence mechanisms and so therefore probably could last a bit longer.
"Whether we can go one step further and say they're more likely to become super-spreaders, I think we just don't know at this stage."
Prof McKenzie predicted that the number of SARS patients would continue to rise in China.
"My belief is that we have nowhere near reached the peak of known cases in China," he said.

Perhaps the question should be ...
Has anyone died that is not what is the term..?Mongoloid?
As in Caucasion-Negroid-Mongoloid?
Or is it more modern to say Asian?
Do you know of a chart that lists this?
Do the bad boys have a racial tag on their virus?
Was China a dry run for a goodie to exclude whatever the DNA for "ARABS" is?
Are Jews DNA ways the same as Arabs?
