Bush travels to Ohio to pressure Voinovich on his tax-cut package

President Bush locked up support from Sen. George Voinovich for his first batch of tax cuts in 2001 with a visit to Ohio. Now, he's trying the same pressure tactic to get the Ohio Republican's support for tax cuts of $550 billion over 10 years.

Those of you in Ohio should use his web address and fill out form to write to him. These days Senators and others "screen" their e-mails, and only pay attention to those from their consituents, submitted through their website, with full name and address. (I found this out from one of my Reps)

I hate to say this, but we may have to rely on support from JOHN McCAIN to get a decent tax bill passed.

He said he wouldn't support tax cuts 'til he knew how much the war, et al, would cost, and the war's basically over now and we should be getting a better handle on the cost of the stabilization of Iraq with every passing day.

We've already written and called Voinovich multiple times to express our SINCERE DISPLEASURE with his lack of support for the President's tax plan.

I'm not opposed to doing it again.

Apparently he still doesn't feel pressured.

Just right to him again, telling him that he is holding up the economic recovery of the entire country. Come to think of it, even though I don't live in Ohio, I think I will write him and tell him this, that he is holding the economy of the US hostage and that affects all of us.
While we can't vote, but people from other countries can contribute to candidates, maybe I'll remind him that I plan to contribute to his Republican opponent and if enough people in the US can remind him of that, maybe he WILL start to feel pressured.

Voinovich comes from a very liberal area -- Cleveland. He does not want to antagonize liberals when he runs again next year. That's why he is not supportive of the tax cuts needed -- he is trying to keep down organized liberal opposition against him. He also probably thinks that the people of OH are more liberal than they really are on a statewide basis. Too bad we couldn't find a primary opponent for him, but I assume none are available. Governor Taft is also very liberal by Republican standards.

I don't think Voinovich is too concerned about his reelcetion prospects (given the fact that the dem's are touting Jerry Springer as an opponent). He just believes in root canal economics (ie., pre supply-side days) Voinovich thinks that the deficits cause all economic problems and that they are to large (even though by historical standards they are relatively small. In the Reagan years deficits were ten percent of the economy, now they are less than five.) With that, I hope President Bush can change his mind.

Voinovich is a tax and spend RINO.

He never saw a tax that he didn't like as Governor and nothing has changed.

He and Ohio's Governor are an embarassment to Ohio conservatives.

I think Voinovich is like Nixon in that he fears an uprising of angry liberals who can defeat him. Nixon used to say that a Republican can't win only with conservatives but a Republican can't win without conservatives either. So Voinovich is trying to get liberal support and reasons that OH conservatives have no where else to go but to his candidacy. I understand Springer will not run after all, for he would have to surrender his worthless TV show to do so.

However, if the Dems run Bernie Koser, I will have to morally vote for the person who didn't screw me.
