I agree with you about the 5.56 x 45 round. I don't like it and will probably never buy a firearm that uses this round. I like the 7.62 N.A.T.O. and 7.62 x 39 ammunition.

7.62 x 39 ammunition is highly available and cheap. AK-47 rifles aren't too expensive at the present either. Too bad you can't get flash hiders on them. If you had to use a rifle without a flash hider at night you would be constantly ruining your night vision with muzzle flash. I can't wait for the stupid Assault Weapons Ban to end September 14th, 2004.

"Should one state with strict laws have to put up with somebody with a permit from a state that doesn't require much gun education and training when getting the permit?"

Absolutely. Just like they have to put up with those who have driver's licenses from states that don't require, for example, driver's ed.

And in answer to your question, no, I did not spring a leak. I'm just tired of you trotting out the "rocket launcher" comment every time a thread on RKBA comes up. You asked it in a previous thread, it was answered, and now it's really time for you to move on to topics that are actually germane to the discussion at hand.

So what does a Vermonter need proof of residency to prove he or she lives in Vermont? How does that pass constitutional muster?

Do you think the United States Constitution gives you the right to walk around downtown San Diego (or wherever you live) with one of these weapons?

Of course I do, don't you? What do you think the authors intended the 2nd A to be, a guarantee that we could own deer rifles and duck guns? They were talking about military arms that could be used by the militia, i.e. the people, as a bulwark against tyranny, not about squirrel hunting and trap shoots.

No law forbidding me to carry any kind of weapon can prevent me from carrying it if I'm willing to risk the consequences of being caught. If I were willing to risk life in prison by committing a major felony, would I be deterred from committing that crime by a law against carrying a gun? Would I say to myself, "Gee, I had planned to knock over that Sun Trust bank and shoot the guard if he interfered, but darn it, there's a law against carrying guns so I guess I'll just have to keep my job at the car wash." Of course not, if I'm planning a robbery the last things I'm worried about are gun laws.

Gun laws do nothing to prevent crime because criminals are by definition people who don't obey laws. How hard is that to understand?

So what if it does pass? In some States, you better not protect yourself with an eeevilll gun; you'll be charge with something nasty. As an example to the rest of us...

Tack on some verbage about home-State use of force protections; THEN it'll be worth something grand.

Yeah... I think you are right. Its better to be dead than having to hawk most of your worldly possessions in order to pay for the attorney in the Wrongful Death lawsuit put forth by the relatives of the fine upstanding honors student that had a stint of bad luck who's pregnant girlfriend just dumped him because he was cheating on her, and who's got a rap sheet a mile long, and was in and out of jail for trumped up charges made by the corrupt police officers ;)
