Because our cities would look like Mogadishu and some of these radical Islamic states.
Mogadishu is where we are headed now. That is where criminals and thugs carry whatever they want and law abiding citizens are sheep surrounded by wolves.
Nobody is going to steal my neighbor's food, water or children as long as I have my AK-47 and can still fire it.

The Vermont approach wouldn't work, because you need to have an "issued" permit.

Oops, I didn't read the second part. The Vermont approach would do it!

Next correction: it only works for Vermont residents.

Swiss "national guard" (at around age 50) they get to keep their M16 assault rifles. Switzerland militia don't have M-16 rifles do they? I thought they got a rifle that fired the 6.5 x 55 millimeter round (a much better round than 5.56 NATO).

I was under the impression that they used M16s, but I could be wrong.

"But, the point I'm trying to make is that the right to bear arms isn't an outright green-light to carry whatever you want."
Forgive the cliche, but what part of "shall not be infringed" don't you understand? Your bed-wetting fears (undoubtedly due to ignorance) about what tools should not be permitted to be carried are inadequate basis for an infringment.
If you think that a particular rifle (such as AK-47, which is legal to carry in most states) should be restricted, you need to learn a bit more about liberty.
And if I have the right to own a RPG (which I may, but it is currently denied by prohibitions on possession) then I have the right to carry it with me.

Would this allow people with CCWs from other states have handguns in NYC?

Would this allow people with CCWs from other states have handguns in NYC? If no modifications were made to the bill and it was passed as it is written it would. New York City, Los Angeles, Trenton New Jersey or anywhere else if you already have a concealed carry permit.

I have been praying for such a bill for the past 20 years! I just sent this thread as part of an e-mail to my entire mailing list....ardent supporters of the 2nd Amendment all of them!

This would have been really great five years ago when I was working across the river in Camden, NJ. All I can say is I made sure to get to work and leave work when the sun was up, preferably at 4pm...the shift change at the police station (lots of cops about).

I doubt it will pass, but it sure puts the heat on RINO's and anti's in the congress. When they vote against they will have some splaining to do come election time, since CCW is allowed in ah 43 states. I sense the NRA spigot of contibutions and endosements will be more narrowly targeted next year.

We were both wrong. I just looked it up.
The Switzerland rifle is the STG 90 (a variant of the Sig 550). It fires the 5.56 N.A.T.O. round. It has 20 or 30 round magazines.

Swiss have I believe the Sig-551 which is 5.56x45mm same as M-16. You may be thinking of the old Swedish Mauser which was in 6.5X55 which is a darn good round. The 6.5 and 6mm bullets are extremely accurate considering their light recoil and would have been a much better choice for the US assault rifle. Unfortunately we seem to be stuck with the 5.56

If you can find one for sale probably in the $2000 range. Another victim of the import ban.
