The ad war over President Bush's proposed tax cuts shows no sign of ending as Round 2 began yesterday in Maine with a new commercial defending Sen. Olympia J. Snowe, jointly sponsored by a labor union and a group of center- and left-leaning Republicans.

"Her concern about ballooning deficits has made her very comfortable with a $350 billion tax cut," Mr. Lackey said.

Really? Well, Mr. Lackey (an appropriate name if there ever was one), how much spending has Mz. Snowe sponsored and/or approved?

Or does Mz. Snowe even realize that government spending also plays a part in creating a deficit?

Interesting... I'm right in the middle of a huge argument with a "moderate" Republican friend in Maine. He's outraged at the Club for Growth's ads.

Amazing... He likes her because she attended some local meeting in Portland and EVEN SENT HIM A LETTER regarding the harvesting of lobsters. He then explained to me that Mainers are a "different" lot, in that they expect their reps to be contrary at times, like Margaret Chase Smith - their idol.

I'm furious. And SO tempted to write him back with a sarcastic remark about his belief that lobsters are more important than reducing taxes!

"...does Mz. Snowe even realize that government spending also plays a part in creating, is the sole reason for a deficit?"

The Republican Main Street Partnership and the Service Employees International Union are running $42,000 worth of television ads thanking Mrs. Snowe, Maine Republican, for insisting Senate Republican leaders limit the eventual tax cut to $350 billion.

Bring on the $726 billion tax cut! This broad apparently doesn't mind funding the current police state.

Yes, some Mainer's are easily manipulated by politicians. All the politician has to do is show up at a town meeting or feign interest with a form letter or two--and these people take it very PERSONALLY, and become MESMERIZED for all time, regardless of the politicians performance record.

Haha! That's hilarious. The gentleman speaks for himself, not for me or the Mainers I know.

As for Snowe, she's a democrat in disguise, not a conservative republican.

"As the nation's largest health care union, SEIU works to hold politicians of both political parties accountable on issues important to working people," said Christy Hawkins Davis, spokeswoman for the union. "We wanted to thank Senator Snowe for basically standing up for protecting resources for health care, education and prescription drugs."

"nope because she is a planted democrat!"

We seem to have forgotten our pledge a few years ago to no longer refer to them as dems but what they truly are ... enemies to the Republic ... Socialists!!

I think the sheeple have it backwards.... Those reps are OUR employees, not movie or rock stars, not famous authors, but EMPLOYEES of we the people.

STILL scratching my head over the "she even sent me a letter" part. It's mind-boggling!

THE PROBLEM IS THEY ARE PAID TOO MUCH AND WITH ALL THAT MONEY THEY HAVE TURNED INTO KOOKS AND IN THEIR MINDS THEY ARE ROCK STARS......

THAT IS THE PROBLEM. OR AT LEAST ONE OF THE MAIN PROBLEMS OF MANY AND UNTIL WE THE PEOPLE STOP PAYING THEM IT WILL NEVER END.

Who gives a doggie doo about Maine? If the Bush's didn't vacation there, they'd have even less of an economy.

Hey Maine? How's that boat building business the Democrats destroyed in the 1993 Clinton tax increase plan huh????????

Morons.

The boat building business is doing just fine thank you. The paper companies are laying off alot- stress alot- of people. The economy is a shambles up here because of our democrat controled government. It is so blatantly anti-business it isn't even funny. Couple this with enviro wackos having the ear of gov.officials and the feel good social programs, and this means that we have the highest tax rate in the country.
