Joe Olson, David Gross, Tim Grant, and a couple of dozen at Minnesota Concealed Carry Reform, Now! have been working far longer than I, and deserve most of the credit.

Todd Adkins from the NRA has been working with us all along, and he's been here full-time for the last three weeks, and his support has been critical.

But our strongest weapon was Senator Wes Skoglund, who'd stand up and spout such inane nonsense in opposition to the bill that he pushed a good many people our way ;)

BTW ... It seems that Minnesota Concealed Carry Reform, Now! will no longer be an appropriate name.

Does anyone have suggestions for a new name, that I can present at next week's meeting?

Where have you heard the decision is due in june from? I've asked several people about their deliberation schedule and all I've heard so far is "I don't know".

I have an informant from Wisconsin who has researched this. The State Supreme Court routinely hands out all of its decisions in early June, before recessing.

I guess they like to get all of the controversy out of the way at once.

Tennessee and now Minnesota[pending Gov signature], is a "Shall Issue" state. That means the CCW Law in your state controls the requirements needed to get a license.

In a "May Issue", the local official "may" issue a license based on your record, age and how much you contributed last year to his election campaign.

That's why, since 1986, every police chief and local Sheriff in every state has refused to support any CCW Bill.

Nope.

No reciprocity.

No messing around with "we'll recognize yours if you recognize ours".

We just flat-out recognize permits from all states with equivalent laws.

I just wrote out "yes", but you explained it better than I did.

Why Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas

This is one of the great mysteries of life. I have a friend who says that the "discretionary" Feudal system in Iowa is not too bad, so maybe there isn't as much abuse there as in other states. The State Constitutions in Nebraska and Kansas are very clear, so you would think anyone could carry a gun there anytime, but they have laws against it.

I truely don't understand this myself, but another friend and I were discussing it, and he said all the urban centers in Kansas were hotbeds of radical liberalism.

It is one of the great mysteries of life, no question.

There is a shall-issue bill being considered this year by the Nebraska legislature.

"...requiring sheriffs to give handgun permits to most law-abiding adults who seek them. "

That scares me. Who determines "most"? Are there codified requirements or conditions? If it is the sheriff, it can get very, very subjective.

Jeff, perhaps a good new alternative name for "Minnesota Concealed Carry Reform, Now!" could be:

"Minnesota Criminals: Cautiously Robbing Now!"

(Jeff: Regarding recognition of permits from other states, do we assume that essentially every state permit is valid, or are there fine distinctions if the state does not - for instance - require as much training as Minnesota?)

I was born there but left 41 years ago to warm up here in Arizona. That said, I have a friend there that calls himself a "conservative Republican". Well folks, he is farther to the left than John McLame.

Iowa didn't have on sale liquor until the mid-sixties. They still had curbs on some highways until the feds cut off their highway $$ in the 70's.

Great people but they are a bit 19th Century.

Sorry Iowegians, just saying what I think.

The language in the bill is:
Subd. 16. [RECOGNITION OF PERMITS FROM OTHER STATES.] (a) The commissioner of public safety must annually establish and publish a list of other states that have laws governing the issuance of permits to carry weapons that are not substantially similar to this section. The list must be available on the Internet. A person holding a carry permit from a state not on the list may use the license or permit in this state subject to the rights, privileges, and requirements of this section.

Rest assured, if this is interpreted too strictly, we'll be filing a lawsuit to challenge.

It's reporter speak for "no felons, druggies or wife beaters".

We have been informed dozens of times by the opponents of the Bill that this law is much more lenient than what those blood thirsty, SOB Texans have.

Congrats! GREAT Work! I'm thinking of ordering a new Taurus PT-145 to celebrate the occasion! You may want to consider changing the name to: Minnesota Concealed Carry Now Reformed!

I'm thinking of ordering a new Taurus PT-145 to celebrate the occasion!

I can't afford to buy a new gun, just to celebrate that the bill passed the Senate - mainly because I bought a new gun to celebrate that the bill passed the House.

A CZ-85 Combat - the adjustable sights are two sharp-cornered for a carry piece. But it makes a great weapon for the informal Action Pistol League I've recently returned to shooting with.

Sen. Jane Ranum suggested that because former football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murder after the 1994 slayings of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, he could get a permit in Minnesota even though a civil jury later held him liable.

I'll bet she wouldn't be in favor of denying people the right to vote, or get married, or most especially the ability to get "social services" on the basis of "being indicted and found not guilty"? The OJ trial was a travesty and a displya of prosecutorial incompentance, but that doesn't change it LEGAL status as the final word in the matter of criminal law.

Pat Pariseau's response was that she wasn't aware that O.J. had applied for a permit.

And suggested that his wife could have used one.
