Minnesota is one signature away from a major overhaul of its handgun laws following the Senate's approval of a long-sought gun bill Monday.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty has said he'll sign the measure, which would make Minnesota the 35th state to adopt a law requiring sheriffs to give handgun permits to most law-abiding adults who seek them.

Maybe this is the kick in the butt the Wisconsin legislature needs to pass a bill. They came sooo close last year...

Sen. Jane Ranum suggested that because former football Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murder after the 1994 slayings of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, he could get a permit in Minnesota even though a civil jury later held him liable. True, but kind of irrelevant.
He seems to get along quite well with just a knife.

This bill is a definite improvement over the Feudal system that existed in the state. It should be an added push for Wisconsin to get Vermont style carry with the Wisconsin Supreme Court case that is due in June.

Well done Jeff and everyone who pushed for the passage of this bill.
Governor Pawlenty has proven to be a standup guy. It seems likely he will sign this legislation.

One of the last dem speakers blamed the NRA, Concealed Carry Now and the Republican Party.
On election day, I hope the voters remember it was the dem party that used every trick in the book to stop this. They whined, cried, threatened, yelled and for some reason they blamed Texas every chance they could.
It was hilarious.

The antis use the same, tired, worn-out illogical arguments against CCW - "blood in the streets", "elevation of violence", blah, blah, blah. The facts are that Minneapolis -St. Paul will be a whole lot safer with a decreased crime rate after a year of successful concealed carry.
Truth is, "Society is a whole lot safer when criminals don't know who's armed." Now, if we could only get some real CCW reform in California - a state who's crime rate has incresed 11% this past year - statistics that always follow a RAT governor's ascendency to the office.
Its clear that increased "gun control", i.e., gun bans, leads to increased crime and "shall issue" carry laws lead to decreased crime. The logic is so flawless, that I guess its the reason the RATs don't want to see a well-armed citizenry - there would no longer be a reason to elect the slobs to government. And quite possibly its the RATs themselves who are part of the criminal culture.
The RATs need a certain level of violence, crime and mayhem in order to scare people into voting for them - ostensibly so they can further try to bribe people not to commit crimes through increases in welfare spending. Its the same, tired philosophy of "appeasement" that worked so well in North Korea. In Oakland, CA, it has NEVER worked out that way.

I've got a really silly question.
On the chart for permit issues, why is that some of the more conservative states don't have the issue permits. I understand the Communist republic of Illinois, but Why Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa?

Per the head of wisconsin concealed carry, they are waiting until after the budget mess is cleared up.

Excellent!

Iowa is a "sheriff may issue," state. Iowans, like those kind folks in the North Star State believe (apparently) the sheriff would be the right person to decide if you need one.
I had one for several years in Iowa and was required to take a half day of school, take a test and register the firearm I wanted to carry. This was only after I gave the sheriff a good reason.

Please change Colorado to "SHAL ISSUE" As of, I believe, the 20th of May this year! Who-yoo! The liberals did get Governor Bill "Gun Control" Owens to add in a provision outlawing guns on school property. Like that stupid law would have prevented Columbine. Damned parents were the only ones who could have done that, and they didn't!
Anyway, Colorado is a shall issue. Oh yeah, I'd like to see the other 49 states also pass another law that we did. The law prohibits any city or county from making any gun law more strict than the state law. Denver bans guns for all practical purposes, but that ends next month!
Wait. Nevermind. Your color graphic just changed colors to show Colorado is a SHALL ISSUE state!

Is this a positive situation, or a negative one. Where I live, (with a local population of over 1 million) the sheriff wouldn't know me from eve and steve. Plus, there are so many political issues on who would get one that the issue was changed to a state issue rather than a local one.
