'Star Wars' Faves Back for Prequel

Sun Apr 27,10:15 PM ET

By Sheigh Crabtree

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - George Lucas (news) is bringing back the classic characters Chewbacca the Wookie, C-3PO and R2-D2 for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode III."

The director has already hired actors Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniel and Kenny Baker (news) to reprise their respective roles as sprightlier versions of their characters for the prequel in preproduction.

All three actors have donned costumes in past "Star Wars" episodes, and in the case of Daniel and Baker, the thespians have loaned their voice talents to puppet and motion-control versions of their characters. Lucas has noted in the past that having Baker inside the R2-D2 suit brought "an element of humanity" to the character.

The film, whose full title has not yet been disclosed, is scheduled for a May 25, 2005 release.

Anakin starts whining, AGAIN.

So, that's where Luke gets it from.

Like father, like son.

<*audience is now able to forgive Lucas*>

I'll admit, seeing Jar-Jar get stomped would make me happy, but Lucas still has much to answer for.

Here's an amusing look at another grievance. :-)

Perhaps he has gone the way of The Cruiser and LLAN-DDEUSSANT, and Titus Fikus. Interesting.

I believe the next film will be the biggest Star Wars movie (in terms of sales) ever.

No doubt. It will be much darker (nearly all the Jedi are killed) and it will complete the overall story line. How many people have noticed that Staw Wars is about Vader, not Luke? When the series is completed, it will be about the corruption of good intentions. At the risk of a bit of blasphemy, it is the story of what would have happened if Jesus had accepted Satan's temptations.

No kidding. Illbay's last post was 4/24/03 on the Utah polygamist thread. I did not read all the way through in detail, but a quick scan revealed nothing that would cause the axe to fall. Perhaps it was a deleted entry.

Any nominations for the new FR court jester/practice target?

Indeed he's gone, but not forgotten.

The notice on his page isn't clear. But it's been more than the usual three days.

He imploded in the religion wars.

Amidala and Obi Wan go off together and raise little Han and Leia.

Outside of the fact that it would be little Luke and Leia, I like your scenario.

As long as Jar Jar gets blown up. Maybe it's just me, but I wanna see the pieces flying.

Here's hoping that unlike Episodes I and II, Episode III will have a plot. Lucas knew what he was doing releasing Episode IV first. We never would've gone for it if he done them all chronologically.

Empire Strikes Back was the last great Star Wars movie. All the rest that followed suffered from terrrible scripts and equally terrible acting.

I don't know, I think I'm gonna miss Illbay a little.
After all, who else could belittle and mock a poster as well as he?

Wasn't he the one that first voiced that it was OBL that was responsible for the WTC attacks?

IIRC, it was.

D'oh!!!

I thought 2 had a pretty cool plot. Cool special effects! Only special effect I found totally implausible was HER falling in love with HIM.

Now maybe if Lucas could bring in some decent writers, the galaxy far, far away could return to some of it's former glory. The prequels have forever dimmed my view of Star Wars.

I agree completely.

Cool special effects!

That was one of my problems. I remember how blown away we all were with the first one in '77. But now I and II are more techologically advanced than IV,V and VI. There's a logical reason for the appearance of the movie. But it bothered me that there was more cool stuff in history than the "present."

I also laughed myself silly over the Yoda/Saruman smackdown...
