Americans Marry Russian Women. What For?

American men use Russian women for self-affirmation. The latter seem to be liking this fact

Marriages between Russian women and American men are very successful and harmonious, Olga Makhovskaya, the senior research assistant at the Psychology Institute in Russia's Academy of Sciences says. When an American man switches from the model of American family where husband and wife are partners equal in rights to the model of an Orthodox family, he thus raises his own significance. In Orthodox families men are given more authority and are more respected. It is certainly an advantage for a man and raises his social and psychological status. In a word, American men seem to have tired of the feminism propagated by American women, and it is frequent that they seek Russian women to start families.

Russian wives in America give up the traditional model of the Russian Orthodox family which relieves them of a heavy burden of responsibility and gives a chance to have a normal life in a family where the range of responsibilities is more definite for them: children, family affairs and housekeeping. At that, Russian women enjoy more attention and support from husbands.

As psychologists say, now Russian men undervalue the essence of family. The whole of the burden, housekeeping, upbringing of children, earning of money are shifted onto women. And, at the time when Russian women have so much responsibilities, their husbands spend their time dozing in front of TV sets in desperate attempts to find out the meaning of life and to understand the truth of the universe. They merely disregard everyday problems that are essential for their families as they consider the above mentioned idle thinking to be of higher importance.

That is why, as Olga Makhovskaya thinks relations in families between Russian and American partners are more harmonious. Each party gets what it wants to have. Husbands get authority and status, and wives are given, in exchange, peace in family and well-being. "Families of this kind where husbands are Americans and women are Russians prove to be long-living, as the roles in the family are clearly distributed and the mechanism operates good, although these are mixed families. In such families each of the couple is ready to make concessions and on the whole, wonderfully performs the role."

In addition, as researches held by Olga Makhovskaya reveal, marriages between Chinese men and Russian women are also very successful. ?There are tens of thousands of such marriages in Russia's Primorye region in the Far East. Chinese men are hard-working, they don't abuse in alcohol drinking and bring their wages home. In a word, they have lots of advantages by contrast with Russian men." It is sad, but the researches don't mention for whom Russian men suit wonderfully.

There are some older American men who take another route.

My wife's Godfather did exactly what you describe. He lives in Slovakia now with a California teachers pension and social security. He lives like a king and has a little harem of young Slovakian girls that take care of his shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc... He's in his mid 70's now so I don't know if there's other "services" involved but he sure is happy over there.

I have a friend who went this path and is still married.

There are horror stories to be sure, but I think it does point out an consistent phenomenon. Men in america do not see the stereotypical american feminist attitude as consusive to a what should be in a wife.

Too right, mate. American women I think are too ready to (in most male's opinion) bypass the hoped-for ideal of feminism in favour of being a Feminist, and no SS Sturmtrooper can hold a candle to their zealotry. A man wants a companion AND a woman who can be a nurturing mother for the family, not a loudmouthed harpy that seeks only to strip him of whatever material assets she can while treating his offspring as bargaining chips.

I've got a friend who was doing some work in Brazil and met a beautiful, educated woman whom he married. She treats him great! His American ex-wife was an absolute witch.

Russian women are absolutely gorgeous.

Summer in Moscow is great as they wear little and seem flattered by attention. They don't think men are being disrespectful.

The goal of marring a Westerner is less than before, due to the fact that Russian is improving, economically.

Russian is a fascinating place. If you can read some Cyrillic (and you can easy after a little time here) it is even more so. But if you can speak it, its great! (I can't, at least not without a titter of laughter when I do)

Divorce amoung doctors is high. She was the bread winner and he needed reaffirmation by finding a woman who needed him!

Some of them are clearly scams, with 'rich' American men lining up to pay for what are essentially mob owned hookers. Often one of these 'ladies' has dozens of suitors paying to meet her, they never do, and they generally are led to believe they are her one and only. Others are desperate to meet and marry a nice guy and escape the poverty and post communism era. I don't know how one knows for sure, but I'm guessing there must be red flags.

My friend's cousin had the experience in reverse, sort of. He signed up for a tour, went to Russia, met his bride and brought her and her child here, with the promise of a prompt wedding and a green card, she wanted to work. The only promise he kept was the quick wedding. Little did she know that she was wife #3, he hadn't worked regularly in more than a decade, often not working at all, he had beat his other wives and was arrested and prosecuted. But she quickly found out. He refused to get her green card, they lived on the income she made cleaning houses for his family, she knew it was wrong and he kept promising that if she just earned a little more, he could afford to buy it for her. He forced her to sleep in the basement and walk to her jobs (very rural area) for months. My friend and I saw eye to eye on getting her help and finding her a spot in a women's shelter with expertise in her situation. She and her child are now in a half way house, she has a green card, is working legally, is getting a divorce, the women's shelter worked hard on her behalf. And he is avoiding prosecution for human trafficking somehow. My friend and I had very tense conversations about that aspect, because as despicable as this 'man' was, my friend didn't want to get the law involved and send him to jail for the crime he committed. But that wasn't up to me, it was up to the shelter and their legal aid. It seems a few of these 'wife hunters' are looking for glorified slaves.
