Its also going to mean more women in the singles ads whining about how they want a man who isn't "intimidated" by an intelligent outspoken woman.

Another thing these schools should be worrying about is that there are still women pursuing MRS degrees. If colleges no longer have a pool of men look to see these ladies taking their dollars elsewhere.

Who cares? These liberals are always wasting their time. College is for people trying to get jobs that require a degree. One does not have to go to college to be successful. If a person chooses to forego colllege, that person will have to work harder. With regards to race, I know a young black man who went to a community college but dropped out. Why? He's a union electrician now who will make more money than many of his college peers not to mention numerous side jobs. As for myself between two immigrant parents drumming EDUCATION and COLLEGE into my head my whole life, well I went. I've only had two years of college but I got a near perfect score on the MCATs. I guess I will go to med school after all.

The problem is a complex one, but a fundamental reason behind the phenomena is that modern K-12 education is not suited to boys' needs and learning styles. Success in school is tightly correlated with the ability to sit still, be quiet, and complete work that is presented in a dull, assembly line fashion. There is little outlet for natural boyish energy and exuberance in schools, and as a result many boys-even those as young as five or six-- end up being given Ritalin or other drugs so they can sit still. At every step of the way those whose natures are least accommodating to this type of education--boys--fall by the wayside.

This is exactly what happened to both of my sons. I knew they were headed for failure if I left them in the hands of certain female teachers and so I started homeschooling in 1990. They are both in college and doing quite well.

WTF is the male community?

That would generally be sports bars, topless clubs, computer programmers and Star Trek conventions.

Now, if a college wanted to increase male enrollment, they might look to offer some courses along these lines of interest, rather than Womyn's Studies and seminars on sexual harrassment. ;-)

American colleges only do one thing really well and that is installing androgeny as the primary character trait of young men and women.

I suggest everyone read Christine Hoff-Sommer's book, "The War on Boys" it is a great book, very eye-opening.

My fiancee's daughter was talking about her "achievements" in her high school Junior English class. It was basic Victimology 101 - Maya Angelou, and the like - and to make it worse, she had a female teacher blowing smoke up her ass and trying to get her a scholarship based on her extremely limited "studies." This girl would be doing good to get admitted to cosmetology school, but she thinks she can go to California and go to UCLA now.

“I don’t think there has been a conscious effort to exclude white males, because historically they have been able to take care of themselves. A lot more attention has been paid to other groups, minorities and women, but perhaps the pendulum has swung too far.”

I still can take care of myself (and my family). And, unlike feminists and some perpetually victimized minorities, I don't insist on special government favors in the form of quotas and handouts to get the job done. It must be a real drag to live life thinking that your failures aren't your fault, but the faults of people of other nationalities or the other gender. Then, when/if you finally accomplish something, you're forced to question whether you would have been able to accomplish it were the "playing field" level to begin with.

So for all you quota boys and girls out there--go on and keep fleecing the pockets of the movers and shakers in this country, and keep crafting that legislation designed to put your sub-standard rear ends through college. But to then try to convince us that we're falling behind you in life--that's laughable.

Depends on your major. Most in the hard sciences and engineering, male and female, work their tails off in college, and you need at least a bachelors, and preferably a MS or even PhD, to even be able to work in those fields, and by "be able to work" I mean be able to do the work, not just get the job.

Very true.

In medical schools, there is a near parity of men and women now trying to get medical degrees, though men tend to dominate the R&D end of the feild, women the GP end of the feild. As for computer science, based on what I have seen, it is still at least 75% dominated by men, same with most technical feilds.

One problem among young males epsecially is the very anti intellectual band of pop culture when it comes to males, with hip-hop culture especially.

A good liberal art education might include for example a few philosophy, language and history courses. Do you that the best use for Plato's Dialogues in original Greek is to decorate your toilet?

The answer to this question is obvious, and stated in the article itself: Among blacks, two women earn bachelor’s degrees for every man. Among Hispanics, only 40 percent of college graduates are male. The article should focus on the true question -- why are so many male minorities skipping college?

Female minorities are "two-fers": they count twice on companies Affirmative Action statistics, so they are in higher demand by companies with quotas to fill. Female minorities who would otherwise have become blue-collar/pink-collar workers instead go to college because they're counting on landing a job in HR or government

An equally good and perhaps more pressing question would be: Where are all the minority male voters going?

Many of them cannot vote because of prior felony convictions. You'll recall that the design of the Great Society included separate public housing facilities for men and women. Women were provided with job training, medical care, legal assistance, and housing in large projects where they could also bring their children. Men were generally not allowed in those facilities except as visitors, under a stipulation known at the time as the "man out of the house" rule. Unless a man was capable of earning at least $45,000 per year — a difficult thing for a young black male in a ghetto — his wife and children would be better off if he accidentally disappeared. She and the children would then get food, shelter, and other benefits worth $45K... something he would never be able to provide.

There was a similar program for men, but children were not allowed. And the qualifications were different. A man could not simply present himself as a penniless person with children who needed help. Only a woman could do that. To qualify for job training, medical care, free housing and food for himself, a man had to commit a crime. He would then be admitted to the men's housing program, which was pretty much like the women's program except there were guards keeping him in. He had bars on his windows, but then so did most of the women.

This arrangement was a noble attempt by Democrats and liberals to re-create the conditions of an ante-bellum Southern plantation — black women and their broods over here, black men in separate facilities by themselves. Thanks to Great Society Democrats, all this could now be provided in a more modern, urban setting like Cabrini Green or Riker's Island. And as you've noticed, the system also saw to it that all but 3/5 of the black population was disenfranchised.

You would think that Republicans, racist as they are, could get behind such a thing. But nooooo... they fought it every step of the way. The minute the Republicans achieved a majority in Congress, they rammed their cruel and inhuman "welfare reform" down Clinton's throat. Some of them even talked about re-introducing the concept of "fathers" into actual American cities, proposing that we provide job training to men, as well as women, but without requiring the men to commit a felony first. It seems insane, but that is what they tried to pass, and they did get some funds for this insidious program.

So now things are worse.
