The Today Show's Dog that Didn't Bark (Katie Buries the Story of Pres. Bush's Inspiring Appearance)
The Today Show

When it comes to liberal media bias, it's not always about what TV chooses to show or say. Sometimes it's about what the media chooses not to highlight.
The Today Show provided a perfect example this morning. Any objective news hound knows that the big story today is President Bush's triumphant, affectionate appearance and speech on the Abraham Lincoln yesterday.
But Katie & Friends did their best to bury the story. They couldn't avoid a brief mention of the item at the top of the show. But after the news summary, I was assuming that there would be a major segment on the visit and the speech. I waited, and waited.
Instead, the news segments were, in order: doubts over whether the boy found in Chicago is the boy missing from North Carolina. Then, it was on to news of poisonings in a church in Maine. Then, a rehash of a story about a man arrested after saving children from a burning building. That was it, the vital first half-hour was over. Cut to your local news.
I had flipped over to ABC and CBS during the first half hour, and sure enough, they had major segments on President Bush's visit and speech.
On this slowest of slow news days, with a huge story screaming in their face, The Today Show did everything they could to ignore it, and make sure the American people saw as little as possible of their Commander in Chief in his moment of triumph and in his entirely real, natural and loving exchanges with our service people.

Don't watch network news, it's bad for your health (particularly bloodpressure)

Hmm, that didn't take long! I have a tradition of posting items on liberal bias at The Today Show, and invariably someone will respond along your lines, or with variations thereof: "I only watch Fox," "who is Katie Couric," etc.
I always respond that I watch out of a combo of masochism and a desire to keep an eye on what the other side is up to and report back to FReeperville.

You mean that nice Katy Couric has been slanting the news?
I don't believe it.

These folks are in denial. They are witnessing a great president in action, but their deeply embedded liberalism will not allow them to acknowledge any achievement. They are consumed with idealism, arrogance, egotism and an intellect that is latge but void of wisdom.
President Bush already has a firm place in history with more to come. He's the man!!

I like your analysis. You just know that for Katie, it was almost unbearably painful to watch the images of President Bush yesterday, knowing in her heart of hearts that if Clinton had tried it, he would have come off looking like the fraud he is, and risking footage of sailors refusing to shake his hand.

Thanks for your willingness to subject yourself to the network bilge. I can say that I have not watched a network news report for almost ten years now. However, it is good to read reports, such as yours, which confirm my decision not to expose myself to leftist non-reporting of that which is relevant.

I regret not having served in the military. Let's say that this is my infinitesimally small way of compensating, going behind media enemy lines to report back!

I did serve in the military, for 20+ years. I can't stand to see our nation trashed by the Katies of the world. We are even.

The only news she couldnt slant is when they jammed a camera up her butt. We saw her brain (or lack thereof).

Katie Colic is so full of jealousy and hatred for our magnificient and honorable President Bush that she reeks of it! The same goes for Peter Jennings.

When I turned the tube on (just before I flipped it over to FOXNews, of course!), Katie & friends were giving the Dixie Blix another few hundred thousand dollars in free advertising to rehabilitate their careers.
Of course, they dragged in a carefully edited snippet of Dubya saying the Blix had a Right To Free Speech. That appeared to be the most important thing happening on the deck of the Lincoln yesterday. ;-)

Thanks for your post; I cannot bring myself to watch "those" programs anymore, ever since the Algore attempted coup---early, early 2001 I finally succumbed to PAYING to watch t.v.---something I previously was adamantly opposed to doing---just so I could watch FOX news, which I was exposed to, at families' homes, during the election crisis. I couldn't believe how different the reporting. The liberal bias in the alphabet channels slapped me hard after watching FOX, not that I wasn't previously aware, it just became SO much more obvious with the contrast of FOX. And since I refuse to watch ABCNNBCBS now, I rely on others who can stomach their spew (and obvious lack of ethical and fair reporting).
