I just heard another smug liberal asking their usual "pointed" questions about why Pres. Bush landed on the carrier in a fighter, rather than a helicopter or some such. Implying, of course, all the usual liberal crap - it's a phony photo op, it's warmongering, it's all about oil, etc. Here are three perfectly good reasons why Pres. Bush visited the Abraham Lincoln in the way he did:

1. It looks great, and sends a message to our friends, allies, and enemies at home and abroad. Mr. Bush is the President of the United States. Where and how he says something is as important as what he says. This says: I am proud of our military, and I intend to keep using them as I said I would.

2. It's great for morale. The President loves being with ordinary Americans, especially his troops. It's genuine, and it shows. The troops love him for it, and it's great for their morale that Bush comes among them as one of them, landing on the deck and mingling. This guy is for real.

3. It's fun. Whereas Clinton's idea of fun was getting his knob polished in the Oval Office while talking on the phone about sending our troops into harm's way, this President actually likes landing on a carrier in a jet. He can do it because he's President - so what, it's wholesome.

And BTW, if Clinton had landed on a carrier, he would have brought ten planeloads of cronies with him, from Barbra Streisand on down, and it would have cost the taxpayers $100 million. Bush went alone, riding shotgun. That says it all about the difference in style and content between this Republican conservative, and that last liberal Democrat loser.
