Clinton says Chinatown needs $500,000 in aid (HUH?????)

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton says New York City's Chinatown community needs help. Chiantown is still suffering from the effects of the September Eleventh terror attack and now it's battling unfounded fears of SARS.

Clinton says she and other officials would send a letter to the development corporation requesting about $500-thousand dollars to promote tourism and provide consumer discounts in Chinatown.

She says the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation has done a good job overall but has not done enough to help businesses in Chinatown recover from the attacks.

City councilman John Liu worries that the fear about SARS could be the straw that breaks the camel's back in Chinatown.

Clinton and Liu were joined today by other community leaders and elected officials at a newly opened restaurant on Mott Street. Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum asked the media to convey the message that ``SARS is not a problem in Chinatown.''

Last month, Mayor Michael Bloomberg ate lunch at a Chinatown restaurant to promote tourism and dispel rumors of SARS.

I'll bet that would work about as well as a personal ad that says "I do not have herpes."

Hmm, illegal gun trade must be down. A friend of mine has a great story about going to Chinatown to try to buy some firecrackers and it taking 5 minutes to convince the guy that he really wanted firecrackers he wasn't using it as a code for gun. When it was all done the guy gave him a big box of firecrackers for $5 and hurried him out the door.

It is an oddity that robo-Dems actively seek people on whose behalf to steal.

Well I don't see her mentioning anything about Little Italy which has shrunk to a few blocks while Chinatown has expanded!

Maybe Hillary could move ONE of her offices to Chinatown to prove that it hasn't been affected by SARS?

The difference is that almost no Italians actually LIVE in Little Italy any more. It's just a themed restaurant strip now.

Chinatown, OTOH, is the largest Chinese community in North America, IIRC.

"Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton says New York City's Chinatown community needs help."
