DETROIT (AP) -- Former state Rep. Keith Stallworth pleaded guilty Tuesday to election law fraud, a five-year felony.
Stallworth was accused of lying on his voter's registration and driver's license. The state attorney general's office said Stallworth attempted to get a false driver's license in 2000 because a domestic violence conviction prevented him from crossing into Canada to visit his summer home.
Stallworth is set to be sentenced on June 27.
It is the second time this year that Stallworth, who was prevented from running again for the state House because of term limits, has pleaded guilty to a felony. His state House term ended in December.
In March, Stallworth pleaded guilty to evading federal currency reporting requirements, a five-year felony. He is scheduled to be sentenced in that case on June 23.
Under the terms of that plea deal, the government agreed to drop the more serious charge of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, marijuana and heroin.
Stallworth was elected in November to the Wayne County Commission. He submitted a letter of resignation in March, then later withdrew the offer to resign.
A Wayne County Circuit Judge said Stallworth lost his seat when he pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge growing out of a drug conspiracy case.
His attorney, Christopher Andreoff, could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
I'd love to see how tilted it is towards the dark side.
