Quote:

"Then the budget impasse/government shut-down turned the tide in the Clinton Presidency, and his outmaneuvering of the GOP made him one of the most popular Presidents in U.S. history."

Sure..if you say so. If Clinton was so popular, could you please expalin why Clinton never got over 50% of the vote in either of his elections? Oh...and that popularity sure didn't do Gore any good. You'd think riding the so-called great economy and "one of most popular presidents" coat tails, would've led to a landslide victory. It didn't. Not to mention that since the election of Clinton, the Republicans have made great gains. Next?

"I have always thought Clinton had remarkable potential, but never was able to live up to his full potential due to constant personal problems."

Gee...ya think so.

"Impeachment-urgh. Some of it was his fault to be sure,"

Some of it? Try all of it.

"but I believe the GOP wouldn't have been so gung-ho about ruining him if they weren't so embarrassed from the government shutdown. Still, 22 million new jobs, the lowest unemployment, the best economy in decades, and peace abroad-we are better off now than eight years ago."

The government shutdown happened some 4 years earlier. And contrary to your beliefs, the economic success of this country was due to many of the Republican positions Clinton adopted. This included the Welfare Reform Act (that he vetoed twice, earlier), the BBA and the first tax-cuts in 16 years. It was that Republican congress that restrained Cinton and the Democrats from spending us back into debt...can you say universal healthcare?

"I feel safe to say he "did a lot of good."

I'm glad you feel safe, because after 8 years of Clinton, I don't. Between tech-transfers to China, inability to confront early terrorist attacks (WTC-1993) and spineless deals with N. Korea...the world is very unsafe, thanks to Clinton.

"I'm going to miss Bill Clinton. It still pains me to think what might have been-as does the probability that Bush II is going to mess all the good up."

Yeah...such a shame that someone has to come in and clean up the mess. As Charles Krauthammer said...our Holiday from History is over...the adults are back in charge.

LOL! Their steamed, alright....and everytime they bring it up, the networks/cable stations run that Prez one more time!

Did you see the reference to "Teen Democrat Camp" in this original ZOT? Camp registration also doubles as voter registration and cost includes $10 check-off for the DNC. I have visions of these poor kids having to listen to the rants of Pat Ireland, James Carville, Dykes on Bikes, and someone from Barbara Streisand's staff! All vegan-meals in the cafeteria, optional classes on 'porn as art', 'so you want to be an abortion counselor?', 'how Hillary made it', 'creating the goddess', 'make your own sandals', and of course, 'how to get out the vote for DEMS'! No writing home allowed, and lots of Kumbaya around the firelog gas fireplace!

No fun was had by all!

Ed, you've gotta lay off the paint thinner. I'm worried about you, man.

Hey, I breathe in paint thinner fumes all day at work, and I'm okay. But if I ever vote Democrat, get me into detox.

. . . his outmaneuvering of the GOP made him one of the most popular Presidents in U.S. history.

If "outmaneuvering" the GOP means signing most of their ideas into law, then what does this say about the guy?

Note: Clinton signed most of the elements of the Republican Contract With America that passed both Houses of Congress. In a more honest era, that would earn him the title "Republican."

Clinton signed more of the Contract into law than Connie Morella and Sherry Boehlert voted for. That should at least earn him the title of Honorary Republican.

He also vetoed fewer bills per time in office than any 20th century President except Harding, despite having a Republcan Congress for 6 of his 8 years.

I like the little, yellow "danger" sign in the foreground.

If Nick Danger ever gets zotted (perish the thought), save this one for him!
