SAY IT AIN'T SO, KYOTO JOE

Lieberman Attacks,
Adds Another Flip Flop To Ever-Growing List

___________________________________________________

"The Lieberman persona is so inventive, has been so creative, has been so gymnastic in its many shapes and forms, that only he can even begin to explain it."  (Laurence D. Cohen, Op-Ed, "The Chameleon Who Came To Dinner," The Hartford Courant, 11/3/02)

LIEBERMAN BOTH OPPOSES AND SUPPORTS KYOTO TREATY FLIP:

Today, Lieberman Attacked Bush For Opposing Kyoto Treaty. "George W. Bush has pulled us out of the Kyoto treaty to curb global warming. I've been working on this issue for more than a decade -- and today, Senator McCain is re-introducing the bill we wrote together to use market mechanisms to cut greenhouse gases." (Sen. Joseph Lieberman, Remarks At 'Resources For The Future,' 5/7/03)

FLIP: And Recently Implied Pulling Out Of Kyoto Undermines War On Terror. "Though the United States produces about a quarter of the world's greenhouse gases and will be affected badly by climate change, the Bush administration has shown no interest in doing anything about the problem.  That undermines our stature and causes an unnecessary rift with our allies that could come back to haunt us as we seek global support in the war against terrorism. ... The U.S. government has paid dearly for pulling out of the Kyoto Protocol ..."(Joseph Lieberman, "Responsibility, Opportunity, And Community," Foreign Policy, March/April 2003)

FLOP: Yet, Lieberman Twice Voted Against Implementing Kyoto. Lieberman voted in 1997 to require all nations in the developing world, such as China and India, be included in the Kyoto Treaty, in effect killing the treaty. The vote was unanimous. Lieberman also voted in 2000 to prohibit funds for the implementation of Kyoto, again killing the treaty. The 2000 vote passed 97-2.(S. Res. 98, CQ Vote #205: Adopted 95-0: R 54-0; D 41-0, 7/25/97, Lieberman Voted Yea; H.R. 4578, CQ Vote #211: Passed 97-2: R 54-0; D 43-2, 7/18/00, Lieberman Voted Yea)

GUESS WHAT JOE:  KYOTO IS A NO GO IN EUROPE

A New Study Reveals Greenhouse Gases In Europe Climbed Despite Kyoto Standards. "The European Environment Agency (EEA) estimates they were 1% greater than in 2000. The EU as a whole is committed to reducing emissions by 8% on their 1990 levels by between 2008 and 2012. On present trends, it appears to stand almost no chance of keeping its promise. The 8% cut is the commitment made by the EU under the terms of the Kyoto Protocol ... The prominent UK global warming sceptic [sic] Professor Philip Stott commented: 'One of the most galling things about the whole climate change debate has been European duplicity. While lecturing everybody else, especially America, on the morality of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it has been abundantly clear from the start that most European countries didn't have a snowflake in hell's chance of meeting their own Kyoto targets .'"(Alex Kirby, "Europe Slips On Greenhouse Targets," BBC News Online, 5/6/03)

I would love to see Lieberman get the nomination. He's Dukakis all the way.

Sit him up in a tank and slap a helmet on his head and see if I'm wrong. A spittin' image of defeat.

I don't even have to hop on this thread to know it's about lyin' Joe Lie-berman. He was number 2 in the all out assault on the President.

Graham was number 1 yesterday about terrorism and Iraq. My money is on John Edwards for tomorrow's Bush attack. The guys with gravitas have spoken (except Kerry because he's still in trouble for the regime change comment). Now the rest of the ten will each take their turn. Terry McAwful is behind all of these orchestrated Bush attacks.

Now, Byrd's comments are part and parcel too although he's not running. To Byrd all I have to say is "give me a break, you old fool."

Also, the EU did worse than the US on greenhouse-gas emissions.

The Globe and Mail Wednesday, April 23, 2003:

Environment Canada released figures yesterday showing that the United States' greenhouse-gas emissions fell 1.2 per cent in 2001, nearly as much as Canada's.

Reuters Tue Apr 22:

Canadian emissions of greenhouse gases fell 1.3 percent, mirroring a 1.2 percent decline in the United States. But Canadian emissions remained 26 percent above the 2012 target level set under the Kyoto Protocol. The United States, though it has refused to sign Kyoto, was faring better than Canada. Its emissions in 2001 were 11.9 percent higher than in 1990.

Ironically, colder than normal winters in Europe are to blame.

I think you are right! If he ran on his own as the top candidate, he would implode! Guess he caught the Al Gore syndrom -- changes his mind and acts like he didn't!

He is Whiney! Voice grates on my nerves!

BTW -- no quarterback chosen until August! Long said when there is competition, they work harder with one quarterback named!

Both Clintons because it appears they've egged Lieberman on to repeat occasionally for a laugh that he is the Vice President. I believe that was the Clintons' idea. Notice that Algor is completely off the radar. Is he growin' a beard again? Algor's the other half of the soreloserman ticket.

I thought about that too, how he's learned the Gore trick of monthly self-re-invention.

Have not heard anything about Gore in awhile. About time for him to pop up on the radar screen again!

It sure makes sense after reading this. I never really thought about him reminding me of Gore until recently. You are right -- re-invent is the word!

Lieberman and the rest of the Dems are total hypocrites when it comes to Kyoto.

The truth is a resolution sponsored by a DEMOCRAT AGAINST signing onto Kyoto for basically the exact same reasons Bush opposes it...passed the Senate 95 to 0. Every single Dem present agreed.

These people are so two-faced it's pathetic.

Thanks for the ping. Nice to know Lieberman's maintaining his image with more of these flip-flops.

Thank you! I noticed this little tidbit too. COLD winters (because of global WARMING) cause INCREASES in "greenhouse" gasses. ( Which are bad). So warming causes cooling..... wish I was a liberal so I could defend this.

"George W. Bush has pulled us out of the Kyoto treaty to curb global warming. I've been working on this issue for more than a decade -- and today, Senator McCain is re-introducing the bill we wrote together to use market mechanisms to cut greenhouse gases."

What are these market mechanisms, I thought that was what Bush said would be used when he pulled out of the Kyoto game? Market mechanisms and the Kyoto treaty are not the same thing.

There are a large number of people who formerly opposed greenhouse gas reductions but have changed their mind as a result of new scientific evidence. Look at John McCain and Joe Liebermann. The CEOs of Shell, BP, DuPont and many other companies who once strongly opposed GHG reductions have flip flopped.
