LACI'S HAIR FOUND IN PLIERS ON SCOTT'S BOAT

May 13, 2003 -- California cops searching Scott Peterson's boat found a pair of pliers with strands of his murdered wife's hair on them, it was reported yesterday.

Prosecutors plan to introduce the potentially explosive DNA evidence and the tool, discovered stashed under a seat on his 14-foot aluminum boat, as key evidence at Peterson's trial, NBC News said.

It was not immediately clear whether authorities will try to tie the pliers to the slaying of Peterson's pregnant wife, Laci, or his later alleged attempts to dispose of her body.

Hair Key Piece Of Physical Evidence

SAN DIEGO -- Sources told NBC News Chief Legal Correspondent Dan Abrams that a key piece of evidence in the Laci Peterson trial will be a piece of hair found on a wrench that belonged to Scott.

CONDOLENCES:
1508 Coffee Road
Suite H
Modesto, CA 95355

Investigators reportedly found the wrench aboard his boat.

In other developments, defense sources told Abrams they believe they have an alternative "credible suspect" who they say is connected in some way to the "mystery woman" mentioned by Peterson's defense attorney, Mark Geragos, last week. They also claim to have credible witnesses to back their case.

Abrams also reports that Scott's former girlfriend, Amber Frey, has approached defense attorney Gloria Allred to represent her. Abrams said he believed Allred would represent her as a spokesperson if she agreed to do so. Allred did not confirm or deny their meeting to Abrams.

Scott Peterson's parents have sold a car to help pay for their son's defense, Abrams reported.

Expert Disagrees With Peterson Strategy

Expert Disagrees With Peterson Strategy

BAY AREA (KRON) - The district attorney is not revealing much information about the evidence against Scott Peterson, but reports continue to surface about possible witnesses in the case. There's talk of mystery witnesses, including one who allegedly holds information that could actually prove Peterson did not kill his wife.

It's a case that just can't stay out of the headlines, especially the tabloids. And now, new supposed leads are surfacing, especially the defense attorney's talk of a mystery woman who holds the key to Scott Peterson's innocence.

Peterson attorney, Mark Geragos, says, "... We know people out there... One particular young lady has important information .. "

Inside court, Mark Geragos was not so specific, but he told the judge he could find witnesses who would point the finger at other suspects in the murder of Laci Peterson.

But whether inside or outside of court, at least one legal expert says this defense strategy doesn't help the client.

Peter Keane, Dean of Golden Gate University Law School, says, "It's really improper for a lawyer to go ahead and use the public as a means of getting out information... that may later influence a trial juror."

Keane says using the phrase "We're looking for the real killer" sounds too much like another high profile case that didn't sit well in the public's mind: O.J. Simpson and his quest to find his wife's real killer.

"So the last thing Geragos should be doing is putting out statements like, 'we're going to find the real murderer,' which makes everyone immediately think, 'oh, it is O.J. Simpson' and puts the case in a suspect type of position in the public mind," Keane says. "Very bad."

The Day Laci and Scott Said 'I Do'

M O D E S T O, Calif., May 12— Long before the world heard the names Laci and Scott Peterson, the young couple tied the knot in the wooded hillsides of a lush coastal California resort on Aug. 9, 1997.

Laci Rocha was just 22 years old when she decided to marry Scott Peterson, who was two years her senior.

Pictures of their small and private ceremony, obtained exclusively by ABCNEWS, reveal a perfect summer day and what seemed like a very happy couple, kissing, hugging and smiling.

Their wedding was held at the Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort near San Luis Obispo, Calif., the same town where the two had met and gone to college.

They met back in 1995, when Laci first saw Scott at a local restaurant where he worked as a waiter.

After a few conversations, Laci wrote down her phone number and gave it to a friend to pass along to Scott. He thought his friend was joking around with him and tossed the number. When Scott realized his friend wasn't joking, he retrieved the number and asked Laci out on date — a fishing trip during which she became seasick.

After their engagement and marriage, the two opened a restaurant in San Luis Obispo which became a popular hamburger joint. They sold the restaurant two years later and moved to Modesto, Calif., to start a family.

Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, reportedly said she knew Laci was in love with Scott Peterson the day she first met the man who would become her son-in-law.

Peterson presented flowers for both Rocha and her daughter — one dozen white roses for mom and one dozen red roses for Laci.

Peterson, a fertilizer salesman, said his 27-year-old pregnant wife vanished when he went fishing Christmas Eve. He helped conduct searches for his wife and pleaded for her return until her body and the remains of their unborn son washed ashore in San Francisco Bay last month near where he said he was fishing.

They found the hair on the pliers. On the boat that Lacy had never been in. Wonder how Geragos is going to explain this away?

Even a bad lawyer can negate that data. "Yeah, it's her hair. Hair falls out all the time. It's their boat. She's been on the boat. It's no stretch to imagine that her hair could end up in the pliers. And if she helped do even basic maintenance on the boat.... "

LOL! Even Marsha Clark of O.J. Simpson days could get him off if they think hair on a tool is going to convict him.

You come up from the basement with said tool in your hand, or pocket...gently kiss your wife and tussle her hair on the way out the door to go fishing.

Wow, they sold a whole car. They must really believe he's innocent.

Agreed. Hair on one's tool is not very series.

Maybe they used pliers to get a fishing line untangled from her hair years ago. Maybe she scratched her head with pliers once (I know I do!). If the pliers don't fit...

A strand of her hair on a pair of pliers isn't going to mean diddly-squat. Why does the writer call it a "bombshell"?

Now if her blood or tissue were found on it, it may have been a different matter. But one hair on a common household tool she may have used herself.....?

The media circus is beginning to really rev up now.

There's a lot the hair can tell them, though, depending on its condition. And where it was on the pliers. I hate thinking what might have happened to put it there.

Refresh my memory, please...when was it that Scott bought that boat again? And did Laci ever set foot in it, to the best of our knowledge?

What I'd want to know is whether the pliers hair is also bloodstained.

Well, if the hair was torn out (and they can determine this by examining the hair) and found wound around the pliers, Peterson has a problem.
