May 17, 2003 -- Police divers returned to San Francisco Bay to search for clues in the Laci Peterson murder case yesterday as lawyers for her husband - and accused killer - revealed that they're looking into the possibility that she and her unborn son were victims of a satanic cult.

Laci is becoming a victim of a satanic cult called, "criminal defense attorneys."

The Scott Peterson defense team even claims to have a credible suspect, NBC said

Might be the same "cult" that did the job on Nicole Simpson and Ron Golman. (Where was O.J. at the time of the murder?????

I'm just waiting for some of God's self-annointed messengers to blame the Harry Potter books for the Peterson murders. Scott undoubtedly used the Cruciatis Curse on Laci.

If anyone thinks I'm kidding, please read prior FR threads where J.K. Rowling was accused of supporting abortion because of what happens to fictitious creatures known as mandrakes in her books.

Without commenting on the 'defense theory' -- let it be said that Satanic cults are real.

I once had a child custody case where there were HUGE police investigation files on allegations of Satanic child abuse and murder. The files on the case were comprised of police files from three cities in two states, files from the state police in two states and reports from the FBI. We were lucky to obtain the files that we had and they were very disturbing to read. No one is safe from Satanists, and they are becoming bolder with each passing day.

I noted just in the past week while waiting in line at Safeway: The tabloids are alleging that Scott Peterson might be a 'serial killer' because other women have disappeared like Laci. There will be even more front page 'tabloid news' as reports leak out from the police sources.

This media nonsense cuts both ways. If I was Scott Peterson's lawyer, I would allege that no jury in the state of California can be impartial because every prospective juror has been tainted by front page hype and nonsense in the media. People are forced to read it in supermarket lines and everbody has seen these headlines.

Who knows what scenario is playing out in reality. Secret eyes witnesses will duel with experts on Satanic murder. More headlines and trashy tabloid hype.

Boy, that Scott Peterson is one lucky guy. Here he is, screwing around on his pregnant wife, telling the GF that he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his life with her, even tho he already has a wife. Then his wife is suddenly kidnapped by a satanic cult -- what are the odds? -- and now he is free. Of course, he didn't do the dastardly deed, but what a stroke of luck for him.

Geez, give me one small break!

I am dumbfounded by his luck too. Who would have thought that just when satanic cults had dropped from the radar screen one happens to reappear? Does anyone else find it a bit odd that the headline writer uses the word "floats" given the circumstances?

If the object is to create reasonable doubt, "concocting" a false cult by the defense attorney should be a crime.

This attorney sounds wacko and it makes me just a little curious as to whom he really is. Anyone local know anything about him??

Unfortunately, in California it very well might be a plausible defense to claim that you are innocent and that a marauding band of Satanists must have committed the crime.

A few years ago, the California Atty. General told a young woman who wanted to compete in the U.S. Olympic shooting team that "her kind of person" was unwanted in California and she should move out of the state if she wanted to be part of the U.S. Olympic shooting team (she wanted to keep her $3000, .22 caliber target gun that the government wanted to ban).

It appears that thousands of violent criminals will have to be released from prison because California has run out of funds. Meanwhile, the legislature focussed on an important public saftey issue by banning .50 caliber rifles.

Given all of the madness that is already policy, I would not be too surprised if Satanists are made into a "protected class" -- especially if they are violent. In that context, saying "the Satanists did it" might be plausible enough to be a successful defense.

Is Scott Peterson still using Mark Geragos? This guy makes you want to take a shower to get that icky feeling off everytime he talks. He is one of those lawyers that will do or say anthing for money. IMHO if a lawyer uses lies to get his client off he ought to be disbarred. There is ZERO evidence of a cult. That is unless you think Scott Peterson is the cult.

Mark Geragos, Scott's lawyer, is a white version of Johnny Cochran. He's a high-profile attorney, having just defended Winona Ryder in her famous shoplifting trial. He'll turn the trial into a public spectacle a la the OJ Simpson trial by floating 'alternative theories' in an attempt to create reasonable doubt.

The tactic of using a high-profile lawyer like Geragos may backfire on Scott. I live in a town about the size of Modesto with a similar population makeup (conservative, middle class, no bullsh!t types). I was told by a friend who's a city attorney that the worst thing you can do in a town like this is to bring in a "New York Lawyer" to defend you--apparently the local judges see it as a 'city lawyer trying to teach the hayseeds a thing or two'.

I keep hearing about these "satanic cults," but I never hear about anybody ever being busted. After all that B.S. with the McMartin Pre-School I thought it had finally died down.
