Those sex oriented teen magazines are not allowed in our house. Period. Any time the girls talk about wanting a teen magazine, we suggest that they come up with an outline of an appropriate teen magazine that would sell. Their energies are instantly channelled into creating their own. Maybe they will one day. Who knows?

ALL these various grade graduations are feel good things. I like you think they are a waste of time.

I don't at all agree with this principal or what she said. ONLY that I believe it's possible that he looked pimp-like in his attire. I wouldn't judge someone by a colorful outfit unless they also had a cane, a limp and talked about how some b------ owed them some money.

Wear a suit and tie and get called a "pimp". I am not going to defend what this school did, but what if the suit was shiny purple with sequins? Might that explain the use of the word 'pimp?'

The parents probably didn't graduate, or were socially promoted to graduation. Poor grammar is rampant in certain segments of our socitey and seeping over into other segments.

What is it with all these graduations? I have seen kindergarten, 6th grade, 8th grade.
For pete's sake, let's just have a graduation every freakin' day.

"I feel that it was very racist for her to tell my child that he looked like a pimp. My child do not know what a pimp is. And also, he is making honor roll today. And his name is Walter Williams, and I'm very proud of him." Some parents said they planned to speak with a lawyer about the incident.
Newsflash to parents. Before speaking to a lawyer, speak to an English instructor.

LOL! Certainly it's possible, but I don't think it means anything . . . unless he's acting like you said . . . :-D

Our school district only holds the traditional high school graduation, so I don't understand why all of those are necessary either.

Hmm.. no photos were provided. The current fashion trend being showcased in Men's store fronts in Memphis malls resemble ZUIT SUITS, colors aren't to flashy.

Can you imagine if the kid showed up in a zoot suit? LOL That would look completely 'pimp.'

The last middle school graduation I went to there were several girls dressed like sluts. These were 8th graders. I couldn't believe that parents would let their daughters leave the house dressed like that.
There's graduation ceremonies for pre-school, kindegarten, elementary school, and middle school (junior high in some areas). I don't recall all this when I was growing up. I think it's an offshoot of the 'feeling good' education system. And pretty much a waste of time...

my daughter attends Catholic school and is graduating from 8th grade in a few weeks. it is a big deal. these kids have been together 9 years and are going their separate ways to a variety of different high schools, both Catholic and public. They will have a graduation ceremony in church, and they are required to dress up. The boys must wear suits or jackets and ties, and the girls are not permitted to wear spaghetti straps and must have their shoulders covered. i don't know about public school 8th grade graduations, but in Catholic school, at least in the DC area, this is routine, and IMO, justified.

I just attended an elementary school concert a week ago, I couldn't believe some of the things I saw there either. All I could think was, "Where is your father young lady?"

Heaven forbid the kids should actually dress up for a change, instead of dressing down.

I said if true. As in if they really were "long dresses" and nothing else bad.
So what was "pimp" dressed in that got him tossed? Doesn't sound like anything was hanging out...
