8th grade graduation is the only one I ever got!

8th grader in a public school? I guarantee you that he does. Between WWE wrestling ("pimpin' ain't easy!" is a rallying cry for one very popular wrestler), rap music (I defy you to find a popular mainstream rap group that doesn't have a song with the words ''ho' or 'pimp'), and HBO (specials on the conventions and contests they have), 8th graders certainly do know what a pimp is... and they glorify the title. It is a compliment.

(My Law School's graduation photo from last year has two gentlemen dressed with those kinds of hats and unique neck-wear.)

Maybe this kid didn't deserve her diploma based on achievement. Did she really "listen" to them walk? A diploma thing? Yikes!

The schools allow these kids to dress like who knows what all year and NOW they decide to care because they look TOO nice? Give me a break. Would they be happier of the girls looked like little Britney Spears wannabees and the boys had their pants down around their fannies?

If those are the outfits in question, then there's more to this story than the clothes. (I thought the boy had a hat.) I smell a reporter trying to make a story, and phrasing it in such a way to make the administration look unreasonable. My guess is that the kids were acting unacceptably, but the principal was only quoted as critiquing the attire.

(I could be wrong, and will be the first to admit it if I am... there are plenty of examples of oddball administrators out there.)

Well, people shouldn't be rewarded until they do something to deserve it--like finishing high school.

Okay, after looking at the pictures:

I can't see why the one girl was barred, unless the whole back of her dress was cut out--which doesn't seem likely.

As far as the boy goes...I don't think there's any way to say what I want to say about such attire without *somebody* accusing me of being a racist.

TBTC, I'll first comment that Malcolm X said what I would like to say about such clothes in his autobiography. An interesting read. In essence, he said that a black who wears clothes like that is being flim-flammed by false values.

When I was a kid, I had to wear shirts made from feed sacks to school; we didn't have an 8th grade graduation ceremony and by then, I was wearing corduroys and cotton shirts with Hush Puppies.

Anyone who publically embarrasses someone for their dress is an ass.
