Its amazing...I rarely watch CNN yet I saw both the original report and Wayne LaPierre's scathing atack on the CNN bimbo interviewing him. It was truly LaPierre's shining moment...he was terrific.

You can read the missing parts to the story further down the thread. I did not see the original story or demonstration. I saw LaPierre go balistic about the faked demonstration. I generally do not watch CNN and it was by accident that I saw the LaPierre interview.

I believe the Sheriff was from Florida.
I didn't see the whole tape but I think the sheriff's name was:

"Gary Reno (ph), a retired 30-year police officer and assistant chief in Oakland Park, Florida."

A couple of days ago, I was on another website and they had the sheriff's email. I tried to send something and it was returned. Too much heat, I guess.

REP. CAROLYN MCCARTHY (D), NEW YORK: I'm sure the American people do not want to go back to the day of allowing AK-47s back on the streets, or even the newer models that are the Buschmeister (ph) that were used in the D.C. sniping killings last year.

So we have people writing laws about guns that think the Bushmaster XM-15 is a "newer version" of an AK-47? Saints Preserve Us!

She is the primary sponsor of the House version of the AWB "renewal", HR 2038, which would reduce the required number of "bad" features to 1, and would define even a thumbhole stock as a pistol grip, presence of which get a gun banned under her bill. It also expands the number of guns banned by name, also bans guns that have the same frame or receiver as banned guns, and includes any " semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event." (1984 double speak anyone?)

So even though the by name ban list includes the sweet little M-1 Carbine and the Ruger Mini-14, it somehow misses the Springfield Armory (et. al)M1A/M14S, she's got it covered in that paragraph quoted above. I think there might be 2 or 3 types of centerfire semi-automatic rifle that would still be allowed, like the Browning and Remington sporting rifles, but darn few.

Thanks Joe. subguns.com was all over this a couple of days ago and they're still loaded with stories about it.

I'm glad to find someone else that saw the interview. The interviewer was shaken and almost ended the interview but didn't. I kind of think she was told not to. I remember her saying something like, I'm going to end this interview because CNN does not fake its news stories.

For the less gun savy. The M-14S/M1A and Mini-14 are virtually identical designs, except for size. The Mini-14 chambers the same ammunition as the M-16/AR-15 and it has a "sister" rifle, the Mini-30, that fires the same ammuntion as the AK-47, both of type of ammunition are "intermediate power". More than pistol ammo, less than the "full power" 7.62x51 (aka .308) ammunition fired by the M-14S/M1A. The little M-1 Carbine is a similar design, but fires a still less powerfull .30 caliber (7.62mm) round that is little more than a slightly hot pistol round.

I couldn't find it on their website. One of the original reports, as well as Wayne's counterattack, are in the transcripts section, but they can't be found with the search engine.

Hard to believe my little SKS is more dangerous than my .44, 30.30, 30.06, .357, 7mm or .308.

Wow! I really appreciate the well informed Senators telling me the straight facts!

Reprsentatives, not Senators. this is a House bill. By comparison the Senate bill, by Fienstien et. al., is quite mild. Other than making the ban permanent, it would additionally only ban import of pre-ban full capacity magazines. I actually think the House bill is a distraction/lure to get us all excited and then say "well OK" we'll not do all that (for now) , we'll just accept the Senate version, even though it's woefully inadequate".

Do you have a CCW for that brick? If not, there's probably a reward for turning you in in your state. Of course you're probably a member of the NBA (National Brickers Association) and can get a good lawyer. </sarcasm off

Sean Hannity had LaPierre on today to discuss this. It was really good. If you havent heard it, his online streaming audio repeats the show until the next live one.

" Meanwhile anyone who has a modicum of knowledge of the AK-47 and rifle technology is sitting home aghast at this JBT lying through his teeth."

Meanwhile anyone who takes their armaments serious enough knows better than to aim their AK-47 at anyone's chest. The head shot is always the quickest way to put down an assailant; body armor is pretty useless above the neck (or even if you've got time to aim, at the knees...that puts anyone down).

The way I handle the "assault rifle" definition in my book is how they will eventually define them, when they get tired of naming individual firearms, features, etc.

They will just ban all semi-automatic rifles, period. The media is already doing its part to blur the distinctions, with full auto AK-47s being blended in with semi auto AR-15s etc in the viewers' minds.

I'd take the SKS against the 44 and 30-30 myself.

Just an opinion...hardly an endorsement of any RKBA infringements.

I think the SKS is one of the bets bangs for the buck..

I guess now is a good time to buy a few SAR-1's (Romanian Ak-47) while they're still only 300$.
