I just saw and heard John Lott at the Chicago Conservative Conference. His examples of media bias were crystal clear. Now if we could only get Mayor Daley to read it and pass a conceal and carry law we would have less crime here in Chicago. He told me a surprizing fact. All the states around Illinois are or are trying to become conceal and carry states!!!
Michigan just reached a year with thier conceal and carry law and it has been very successful. The state is pleased it has been a positive rather than a negative and crime is down. UNFORTUNATELY THAT does not make headline news!!

The left is interested in guns vs crime. They view everything on the scales of state power. More guns means less state power, hence they oppose it.

The comparison of gun-related crimes vs. crimes prevented by guns is kind of a weird one. It's obvious that the media (especially local tv affiliates) thrive off crimes committed rather than crimes prevented, as fear sells papers, keeps eyes glued to the screen, etc. So it's in the media's better interest to report crimes committed way over and above crimes prevented. Not necessarily a bias against guns but a bias towards cultivating fear. It's in the nature of the beast.

John Lott is more credible than Michael Bellesiles. Which infuriates the gun banners to no end since in their heart of hearts, they know he's right.

Nothing infuriates my gun grabbing friends more than a good dose of John Lott's analysis. The man is a major asset in the battles to retain our rights.
Not only does he do the 'macro' statistical heavy lifting, he also explains the results in ways that make it easy to incorporate into the give and take of argument.
Great article.

More guns means less state powerI agree. Gun owners (and the private sale of guns) represent a segment of society that the left CANNOT control, which irks them to no end.

I just saw and heard John Lott at the Chicago Conservative Conference. Does the chicago lady have a new heart throb?
... did it make up for missing Sean Hannity??

bump for a great read.
BTW, I'm in Indiana, and I won't go to Illinois anymore because they won't let me carry my Kimber to protect myself... and the last two times I was in Chicago, I surely felt like I needed it.

Illinois needs a C&C law and a three strikes law. Get the liberal judges, DA's, mayors and left wing mediots out of the way, and the crime in Illinois will drop like a rock.
Of course the trial lawyers don't want that to happen. When a citizen permanently drops a criminal with his gun as that criminal is action, the trial lawyers lose a multi million $ cash cow. The left wing trial lawyers see criminals with guns as cash cows.

Better yet, get the liberal judges, DA's, mayors and left wing mediots behind bars. So long as they conspire to deprive other Illinois citizens of their constitutional right to bear arms, they're criminals, no better than the Klan.

"The left is interested in guns vs crime. They view everything on the scales of state power. More guns means less state power, hence they oppose it." That's the bold, simple truth! Arming the criminals and dis-arming the general population equals job security and more power for the the socialist scum who are invading and infecting our government. 'Some Dare Call It Treason.'

Thanks for the ping. Looks like another great resource from our friend John Lott.

Reality says we can't lock all of them up. So we get 3 strike laws and c&c laws. Then, we remove the judges who try violate these new laws.
Oregon still has left wing judges, mayors and DA's. However, their two strike law and c&c law put a huge bite into the professional criminals.
