My 16 year old had a mechanical widener that had to be adjusted every week or so to widen hers. Six months with a piece of screw-jack shoring in her mouth. Miserable. Had we waited another year they would have had to have operated.

On the serious note of braces, they suck! Hurts every time the ortho tightens the bands.. Glad mine weren't bad.. Was for re aligning... oh my....
