Yeah, I went for the Michelob Ultra in a pinch. It was better than no beer, but only slightly.
But I'm no longer able to even consider the Atkins diet. I've recently developed painful gout in my right foot, and Atkins would do nothing but aggravate it.
I'm 39 years old and I got a disease that supposed to strike old men in the eighteenth century!

If this were the 18th century, 39 would be old...and that's coming from somone the same age, who two years ago, had diveticulitis - another 'old person' disease :)

I had gout in college. It cleared up though. Lots of water helped.

My husband had an attack of gout about 4 years ago. The health food store said he should take a black cherry juice concentrate. He didn't take it -- his attack was mild and he hasn't been bothered with it since. Anyway, that might help if you want to try something natural instead of prescription.

I am 39 and have Gout.
Beer aggravates it!
Get Alluperine (spelling?)from your Doc.
I have lost and gained back about 150 pounds over the years by the Atkins Diet just can't seem to be able to add those small amount s of carbs back without falling completely off the wagon!
I am going to give it a go again!
Maybe JimRob would be willing to make a forum for Atkins diet here at Freep?
My gout improves with diet if I drink enough water and get the weight down.

I have gout and am also on the Atkins diet. As long as I take my medcine my gout is under control and I still have been able to lose a lot of weight.

First of all the good news is that gout is supposed to be related to IQ - the higher the IQ, the more likely the development of gout. Probably an old wive tale, I don't know.
Gout is easily taken care of by a small tablet called Colchicine. Cheap, effective, they handle the extra protein that causes gout. I've had to have them handy for years - as any time I go on a high protein diet, out comes the gout. But, with Atkins, which is high protein AND fat, I've lost more than ever before, and have been able to keep it off, and get this - never, ever hungry.
That is such good news because with any other type of diet, I have always been ravenously hungry. But, with Atkins, it's easy to stay on the program. I highly recommend it.
Colchicine. It's the answer. Get a script from your Doc.

Now, that's funny! Since alcohol aggravates gout! So, yep, blame and stop the diet, but keep drinking! LOL
