Hoo boy! Those pictures take me waaaaay back to my sea duty days. Some navy ships had marine detachments aboard in those days and I was in one.

You should have read the accident report. Sea state of 3, 30 knot winds across the deck, rain...
See any rain or waves?
I didnt feel any wind that day, either, I took those pics on the starboard catwalk.

That's really bad, but unfortunately it is not the only report I ever heard of that outright lied.

I went to THE VN Memorial Wall in 1998 while I was in DC for the Freeper Rally. I took my son with me, he was 17 at the time. I went with Gracey. Met 4 or 5 thousand Freepers, had a great time. On Sunday afternoon, Gary and I went to THE WALL. I found the names of two schoolmates I knew who died in Viet Nam. Ricky James and Larry Henshaw of Sapulpa. I made a pencil rubbing of their names. I can still see their beautiful faces when I close my eyes and think of them. Such FINE HANDSOME young men, HEROES!

First of all, Heinz, thank you for your service and God Bless you.
My Dad was also a WW11 Vet; served in the Pacific Theater. He just passed in January.
We all should be so proud. Of our Dads, and all who served and are currently serving. God Bless them all and God Bless America.
Thanks to all who serve we still have this wonderful country.

Redrock--thanks for being stubborn and for pinging me to this thread.
I have been to the Wall three times--although of draft age at the end of the Viet Nam era, I was not called to serve.
Yet, the design of the Wall is so compelling, the way it draws you in,the way you are reflected in its black shiny face as those names stare out at you. And the many tributes left by the visitors--some are heartbreaking to behold.
To our shame, too many of these brave vets never lived long enough to receive our thanks for what they did in Viet Nam.
Thank you for your stories about interacting wth those who came to the Visiting Wall---I'm sure your words were of great comfort to many.
Thank you for your service to our country,Redrock. A thankful Memorial Day to you and yours from one in your debt.
