What does the dragon eat? Puppy dog tails, and BIG FAT SNAILS!

Pull the string! Pull the string!

I knew there must be at least one other Ed Wood fan around here.

This whole story falls into the 'things I could do without knowing' category.

I appreciate the contribution that the Wachowski brothers have made to film making. The craft and artistry represented in the Matrix movies is truly superlative. I'm never surprised to find eccentricities in talented, driven people. Stories of adultery, freaky fetish sex, and high-profile litigation don't especially enhance the thought provoking nature of the films, but it ultimately doesn't matter one way or the other.

Since Larry isn't taking my kids out on Scouting missions, nor occupying a position of political or corporate responsibility, what he does in his bedroom, while kooky, doesn't matter.

Sick kinky gross people can direct great films, write great poetry, compose great music.

(I think Chaucer made that point in the Canterbury Tales. Or maybe you remember Amadeus?)

They're still sick, kinky, gross people. But if you want to track the facts you might consider a more fine grained approach to you evaluation of people.

Kind regards,

I lament that a sanctified covenent between man and wife has been breached in this way.

But maybe there's a lesson here. I've never been married and I'm too young to think about it seriously, and I take it you are married, so I offer the following observation with some humility.

But it seems to me that If one wants to do everything possible to make a marriage (or any intimate relationship) work, one has to make it safe for one's partner to talk about their deepest, kinkiest, wildest sexual desires and fantasies. People aren't often good at even KNOWING these things, so it's not as easy as saying "hey, you can tell me". One has to probe, experiment, be open and emotionally available, and always, always, always, communicate.

It sounds easier than it is, especially when we're talking about non-vanilla sex. But it might make the marriage better, and it would certainly make the sex much better.

Maybe if his wife had brought the kink out of him, they'd still be together, maybe even feeling a deeper emotional bond by having shared these sorts of deep, dark, scary desires with each other.

All I can say is, I've had kinky friends in my life (there are all kinds of ways to be kinky) and I've been richly rewarded for having understood them and having shared that understanding with them.

Peace,

I also disagree with the charactarization that the dance sequence was an orgy--unless orgies are really boring. It was a neat shot at the beginning, but got tired of looking at closeups of muddy feet. And I'm not up for taking my kids to see any movie with simulated sex (not the dance sequence, but Trinity and Neo). What's the deal? Are they trying to do themselves out of a market? The trend is away from that stuff.

(g) My kids have a new expression, they kind of squeak "Thanks for sharing" in a singsong voice. Picked it up from some cartoon--It's always good for a laugh.

MATRIX SPOILER ALERT--The movie also had some frustrations--I was filled with "what I would have done differently." Morpheus lost his faith, which should have been a moment of high drama. Then Neo suddenly has unexplained powers IRL, also without drama or explanation. I detested that long, confusing final episode with the Architect spouting endlessly.

I did really like that rescue of the Keymaker, with that French guy being so disgusting...was he the program for Jaques Chirac? Would like to see Persephone developed as a character.

The bare feet have some sort of significance that I haven't figured out yet. If you'll remember, when the kid that sort of worships Neo was running to the huge cavern where Morpheus was about to give his speech, he hurriedly took off his shoes for some reason. I'm still puzzling over that one.

Yeah, I never saw it as an orgy either. I couldn't figure out why people were describing it as such. But at any rate, I noted the directors focused on the sweat, bare feet and mud. Maybe something symbolic in there- who knows. Maybe it'll turn up in the next movie.

I didn't think that scene was that long personally. It seemed like it lasted about 15 or 20 seconds- it was over before I knew it at any rate. The freeway chase scene was a little long for my tastes but I guess that's what it's all about isn't it? Personal taste.

I don't have a television and it's been over a decade since I saw any American television but over here, you would see much more graphic sex scenes on normal television (than in the Matrix)- I mean much more graphic. Nudity is common on British television. Is it that way on American television? Do the daytime soaps not have sex scenes? Just curious. And like I mentioned about the ballet earlier- there was nudity on the stage and many small children in the audience. How does that work in the States? Or would that ballet be banned?

(I thought Trinity and Neo were wrestling. Looked like he had her pinned...) ;-)

Since you are talking to an unrepentant prude, I'd say MatrixII was racy for my taste, certainly I wouldn't take a kid not a highschool grad. I have a monster TV that I bought just to watch LOTRings...but I seldom watch network TV. I do like movies.

Regular cable offerings do not have nudity, that I'm aware of...but so many new stations enter the picture that I can't keep track of them. I filter out network TV, and put up with some rather vulgar cartoons that my kids like.

"Spirited Away" was truly excellent.

Classical ballet in America does NOT have nudity. I've seen CLASSICAL ballet from the UK/Russia/etc and I've NEVER seen nudity.

I've also taken ballet for years, and I will tell you as a ballet dancer that ONE of the reasons a girl will be in ballet is BECAUSE of the costumes.

Balanchine (and post-) and others do NOT do Classical Ballet unclothed.

Ballet is STILL a CLASSICAL CONSERVATIVE art.

There are however those that call their MODERN crap "ballet", and it's not.

I'm such a conservative ballet fan, I think Balanchine is/was crap...didn't quite understand PSon's description of ballet in England, which I took to be where he's posting from.

It's interesting that Matrix I had Judeo-Christian underpinnings, i.e. Trinity, Zion, love gives rebirth, etc.

However, Matrix II is dark, pagan and depressing.

We should remember there are forces in the entertainment industry, as elsewhere, who benefit from destroying people publicly as well as obliterating any lingering trace of morality.

Mike Ovitz said the gay mafia was out to get him, his wife and his children.

I believe him. It happens daily, and nowhere more successfully than in Hollywood.

Pod People live, and they're often dressed in lavender.

That is a matter of opinion though, isn't it?
We've all got our opinions and they all stink- yours included ;-)
It's all about perspective.

Some modern dance is really nice. I wouldn't want to live in a world where all dance had to be in the classical form. I like classical as well but I certainly wouldn't want my choices limited to it. I like a few options myself. A little room for interpretation.

I don't know how far I'd go in describing all forms of modern dance as 'ballet' per se, but clearly, much of it is. Last night's ballet opened with a bit called 'Hurricane'. Set to Bob Dylan's song of the same title. Overtly political. The perfomance could just as well have been done in a city square by a street performer- it carried the same effect. The dancer's interpretation was interesting but it wouldn't have ever occurred to me to label it ballet and it wasn't what I paid to see (which was Ghost Dances- which was ballet).

Ahh. Well I'm with you except I love Balanchine. In the ballet world he is considered god-like. We read tons of books about him borrowing each others books and recommending them.

I agree with you, and as terrible as Ovitz was I do believe him about the "Velvet Mafia".

You know in the new movie Finding Nemo, the lead female part is none other than Ellen DeGeneres. She does a great job BUT this is once again part of the Velvet Mafia putting one of their OWN in a kid's movie.

Pathetic as ever.

What's your take on "Bruce Almighty?" I haven't seen it yet.

I haven't seen Bruce Almighty yet but I think Jim Carrey is pretty hilarious. I'll never forget Liar Liar, which was funny! I'm hoping to see Bruce Almighty soon :)

Do you know the site http://www.rottentomatoes.com ? It's a great site and gives ALL the reviews.

Yes, that site is great.

Carrey amazes me with his ability to turn ridiculous plots into hilarity.

When he's good, he's wonderful. But when he's bad, he's terrible, like in "Cable Guy" and anything with Rene Zellweger.
