Estelle Getty Can't Recognize Fellow 'Golden Girls'

NEW YORK -- Estelle Getty is so ill, she doesn't recognize her fellow "Golden Girls."

Rue McClanahan tells TV Guide Online that Getty has the same problem with her brain that killed Dudley Moore.

She says she doesn't recognize any of her old friends. Getty didn't appear in Monday night's Lifetime Special, "Golden Girls: Their Greatest Moments."

Getty played Sophia Spirelli Petrillo on the show from 1985-1992.

I thought she had Parkinson's and Alzheimer's... What a pity, though. No one should be robbed like that. The special on Lifetime last night was good. I love that show!

I once heard that she was actually the youngest of the four. I thought that was interesting.

Bea is one liberal jerkoff.

Man I feel sorry for Estelle though....how sad!! She was one of the oldest people I remember seeing on tv at the time (there was probably something wrong with me watching "Golden Girls" when I was 8 or so...I must have been 80 in "feeling like" years or something...), but seemed to have such life.

I found this at http://www.idotvads.com/getty/faq.html

Is Estelle the oldest Golden Girl?

Bea Arthur (born May 13, 1923) and Betty White (born January 17, 1922) are both older than Estelle, Rue McClanahan (born February 21, 1935) is younger. Estelle's birthday is July 25, 1923.

Thanks to the original source for making us look it up;

Moore had been battling progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare and incurable brain disorder similar to Parkinson's disease.

Bea is one liberal jerkoff.

She did one of the first pro-abortion shows I've seen on her old series, "Maude". In that episode, she had gotten pregnant and went through all kinds of soul-searching about having an abortion because she thought she was too old to become a mother again. IIRC, her husband, played by William Macy, didn't want her to have one.

She ended up having the abortion. I don't remember what year that episode was on, but I remember being appalled by it.
