Those kids didn't have a choice in thier deformities. A transsexual does.

Not really, if you have done some medical research on the subject you would know that. Since you have a cousin who is a transsexual you might want to here me out.

As you know, male and female brains a different, what you may not know is that the fetus/bady's gender of the brain develops (in the first trimester) way before the physical gender of the rest of the body (which happens in the second trimester). These are two COMPLETELY different stages of fetal development.

How the gender of the brain happens in the first trimester when a brain gets what's called a testosterone wash, which makes the brain develop into a male brain. If no testosterone wash happens, then the brain develops into a female brain.

Now sometimes the horomones during fetal development are what causes the screw-ups to happen.

Now here is where screw-ups can happen, even if the chromosomes are XY, the brain may still not get the testosterone wash and still later on develop outer male sex organs; causing someone to be outwardly male while having a female core identity.

While one the other hand, even if the chromosomes are XX, the brain may still get the testosterone wash and still later on develop outer female sex organs; causing someone to be outwardly female while having a male core identity.

And sometimes hormones completely ignore the chromosomes and someone who's chromosomes are XX can be completely physically and mentally male. While someone who's chromosomes are XY can be completely physically and mentally female.

And I don't really want to start on what happens when the chromosomes themselves are screwed-up.

If you look this stuff up in medical textbooks and on the internet you will find that I am right.

Now here is the question. Since the gender in the brain develops FIRST, why should we force the gender of the brain to conform to the gender body and not let that person do something about?

You used facts. That's a big mistake. Don't you know that GOD said so?

Next thing you know, people will be pulling out facts to prove that the earth wasn't created in 4004 B.C.

You know, that is the most thoughtful thing I've ever read about transsexuality. I'm still mulling over it.

If transsexuality does have a genetic basis, then it's hard to justify not treating people with this condition with the respect and accomodation that society affords any other disability.

Lots of conjecture there Paul. The fact that it's also "politically correct" conjecture doesn't help it's veracity any, either.

Either a person is responsible for their actions, or not. If not, there is no "society."

I am female, but used to be accused, back in olden times, of thinking like a man. Probably because I am direct and logical, not terribly influenced by emotional arguments.

These day you can say the same thing about a lot of women, e.g., Ann Coulter, who is a beautiful woman but one wouldn't say "she thinks like a woman."

So, what is a female brain, and what is a male brain?

If you say, "a female brain is attracted to male bodies," personally, I'd agree with you - I am not attracted to men - but we all know that lots of men are attracted to men, yet are not women or even effeminate.

As someone who is terrible at math, I could concede (although female mathematicians would disagree) that a female brain is "bad" at math -- but my spatial abilities are off the chart (excellent), and women are also "bad" at spatial abilities.

I don't think it's easy to assign genders to brains.

Where in a medical textbook can I find the term "female core identity?" I hope it is not there. This seems to be another made-up term to legitimize a philosophical construct that only exists in the minds of those who condone such behavior.
