Most accurate, unbiased, comprehensive 9/11 Video/DVD? [Vanity]
Vanity / Inquiry | 06/09/2003 | Jay D. Dyson

Posted on 06/09/2003 12:50:31 PM PDT by Jay D. Dyson

Hi folks,

I did a search through the FR archives and couldn't find a thread on this subject, so please bear with me.

I recently received a gift DVD on the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was the CNN "America Remembers" DVD. (I know...I know...)

With that in mind, I ask all fellow Freepers for their input on the best, most unbiased (raw footage without commentary is certainly acceptable), and comprehensive video or DVD on the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the WTC, the Pentagon and, if possible, Flight 93.

I'm asking this on behalf of my own sensibilities and to assure that my wife and I will have a viable medium by which I can impart to our children what *actually* happened on 9/11.

I am not willing to leave history in the hands of the Leftist media or public schools. I do not trust them to tell the truth of what happened and what it was like that day.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: 911; dvd; unbiased
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

That's a pretty good suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't use Kazaa (or other P2P software) due to security concerns and because there are loads of intentionally misleading filenames used to disseminate trojan and worm payloads. :(

Did you see the CBS documentary, "9/11" which used the film shot by a pair of foreign film producers who just happened to be doing a story on a rookie Manhattan firefighter when the events occurred? The footage is unlike any other.

If you can find it, I highly recommend it. But, I've never seen it available for purchase. (I'm sure a lot of folks taped it; I captured it on digital videotape.)

I taped it on the tv. It is good and largely devoid of commentary IIRC (it has been awhile since I have seen it). I plan on using it in my classroom when I get out of college and finally start teaching.

I taped that and the HBO one as well. One the one-year anniversay, Fox News replayed a few hours of their original coverage from that day and I taped that. That's the most powerful memoir I have of it. Maybe they'll do it again this year?

As someone who was just outside the WTC (a few very short blocks away), I thought that the HBO special came the closest to capturing the true horror and sense of helplessness of that morning. And it's available for sale at Amazon.

Yes, thanks! It's called, "9/11 - The Filmmakers' Commemorative Edition (2002)."

I purchased my copy of 9/11. The documentary was good. Anything by CBS News with Dan Rather isn't worth even a preview. The book by CBS, "What We Saw" is gag-worthy, also. PBS' In Memoriam was pretty good and is available in video stores.

GMTA

As a fellow NYer, I agree. It felt NY and really expressed what it was like here that day.

Well, most of the footage came from people who were on the streets, in nearby buildings, etc. When I first saw the documentary, I nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw that some footage of the south tower right after it had been hit was taken on my street.

In Memoriam - New York City, 9/11/01 (2002)

Originally shown on HBO on May 26, 2002, In Memoriam is one of the most vital documents to emerge after the events of September 11, 2001. Compiled from over 100 sources, this collage of audio, video, and photography will provoke tears, anger, and grief all over again... so why watch it? The title states the purpose: as disturbing as some of these images are, they are also bursting with tenacious and inspiring humanity, bolstered by the wisdom of New York City's then-mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who recalls--along with his executive staff--the horrendous events of 9/11 as he entered the chaos of Ground Zero. With its closing montage of numerous memorial services, this exemplary 60-minute film, supplemented on the DVD by an interactive timeline of pivotal events, makes it virtually impossible to forget the 3,047 lives lost to terrorist brutality. Despite the astonishing scope of coverage provided, this is not a journalistic endeavor, but a potent visual reminder that 9/11 was a day of unity, transcending the horrors witnessed here. --Jeff Shannon

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. You've all been of enormous help in my search for the unvarnished coverage of the 9/11 attacks. I am in your debt. Thank you!
