Local Sales Of Hillary Clinton Book Off To Slow Start
Memoir Reveals Account On President Clinton's Affair
POSTED: 7:02 p.m. PDT June 9, 2003 UPDATED: 7:03 p.m. PDT June 9, 2003
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Former First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's new autobiography went on sale Monday morning.
In New York, people lined up for as long as 14 hours waiting to have Clinton autograph their copy of her new book. But in Bakersfield, the sounds of ringing cash registers was not as loud.
Sales started out slowly at Russo's Bookstore.
Valerie Lewis of Russo's Books said, "We were anticipating more of a rush but our community takes a little time to get going and then it really hits."
A few people got their copy of "Living History" to read up on Clinton's eight-year stint as America's First Lady.
Customer Bernice Bonillas said, "I'm a Hilary Clinton fan. There's been so much hype on the news I just wanted to make sure -- be sure I get one."
Clinton's account on her husband's affairs may be the book's hottest selling points.
Clinton received an $8 million paycheck for writing the book.
There is also speculation that she is aiming for an even bigger benefit -- a 2008 presidential bid.
For some Bakersfield residents, the latest media blitz on the New York senator's life seems to have bogged down any interest.
"I've been hearing enough on the TV about it and I think I already have an idea on what it's about," said one customer.
Meanwhile, one customer bought a book on a completely different political figure -- President George W. Bush.
"It's a birthday present for my son who's a political science professor and a Democrat. He has to teach both sides so I thought this book called, 'Made In Texas,' gives a different view of Bush," one customer told KERO.
The hardback version of "Living History" costs about $28. A seven-hour audio version of the book is also available in stores.

You should have included laughter alert.

"We were anticipating more of a rush but our community takes a little time to get going and then it really hits."Yeah, right. I'll bet that "slow" community gets in gear when Harry Potter is released.

A seven-hour audio version of the book is also available in stores. When I think of the losers in this country, who would buy the book, not to mention the audio version, I shake my head in bewilderment.

They may be confusing "slow start" with "peak sales".

Its all in marketing. The next approach should be.
"Living history, now in two ply, softer than Charmin and now half the price".
To: Paul Atreides
And for some obscure reason the NYT will list Hil's book in non-fiction category.

What do you expect, when the NYT IS a fiction category?

There is a bigger story for those reporters willing to dig for it. What is Webb Hubbell and Saint Susan doing for money these days?

Being that the witch has the most expensive commercial promo for a first ladies autobiography the garbage book can't and won't sell even if she breaks in prime time with another commercial.

Since HRC's political base consists of people that think the government owes them something, it seems reasonable that they think Hillary should give them the book.
Not a market to produce a bestseller.

How much you want to bet that HBO, Disney and all the big lib corporations buy up tons of this book and give them away free in promotions.

More appropriately it should be entitled "Lying History". I am sick of hearing about this despicable witch.

I don't know about anyone else as far as I'm concerned I loved her 8 years in the White House and I was so relieved to see them go, I sure don't want to open old wounds by reading her book.

The only error in your humerous cartoon picture is that it depicts Hitlery and Bill in the same bed -- which I doubt has happened since Chelsea was conceived.

8 people bought Hillary's book? What a readership in California GOP country, LOL! I think they'll have a tough time selling it out even with the book tours, signings, and TV interviews. As well as the discounts. I mean what has the woman said about life we don't know already? And when you flip to the back of the book, there's nothing in there about her Senate years. Puhleeaze...

Great Hillary Cartoons!
To: TaRaRaBoomDeAyGoreLostToday!
One of the first questions Hillary answered in the Walters interview was about Bill Clintons comment that a president should be able to serve more-than 2 terms.
Sensible Hllary said that having more-than 2 terms would make a president too powerful.
(Whew..America sighs in relief)
However, in perfect Hitler-Goebbels schtick, this well-placed leading-line was followed by an entire-hour of Hillary-For-President programming!
(TV "Programming" takes on a NEW meaning here!)
When Hillary runs for President and Wins, quess what, the Clinton-Duo will suddenly get a Third Term, and by Hillary's own admission, this would make them both SUPER-Powerful!

The local grocery stores already had discounted the book by 25%. The top book on the rack was already a little used looking. That means people have had enough interest in the book to stop and read a little but after reading a little did not find it good enough to buy.
I personally, woould not even give this book enough credence to check it out at the library. I planmed on reading a chapter a week at the grocery store, but after reading the first chapter out of the slightly used book in the grocery store, I wouldn't waste my time
I couldn't figure out whether she hated republicans because of her father, or hated her father because he was republican. Rather than use the paper to explain what she believed in, she wasted a tree explaining why she hates conservatives.

Customer Bernice Bonillas said, "I'm a Hilary Clinton fan. There's been so much hype on the news I just wanted to make sure -- be sure I get one." You know what they say. Any publicity is good publicity as long as they spell your name right.
I really think we are seeing the beginning of the end for the Clintoons. A pity, really. I wanted to see them drag the Democrat Party into the sewer for another few years before leaving the scene.
