I don't like the results, but I don't know what the options were. Consider the polls and the army we will have in the next term and ask yourself if the price was too much to get us what we ultimately want. And once achieved for the first time in history as I am aware, the majority of society will not only understand the legislature that is being approved, but appreciate the benefits. They already realize they're safe!

Why, in the tax cut bill, the repeal on the gargantuan 1993 tax on Social Security was NOT repealed?

Who is preventing private industry from participating in the bidding process?
The VHA is doing some increadible research, why eliminate it?
Other departments are presently handcuffed by political motives, how would you change that?

Tax cuts will increase revenue to spend on programs like Medicare and Social Security.
Why don't you think the changes in dividend taxes benefit the elderly?
Which candidate is going to propose increasing taxes next term?
Which party will support current Social Security taxes?

I'm voting for Bush, and of course the Dems want to increase the role and power of government in our lives, but there are too many "moderate" and liberal Republicans that don't want to see government programs cut either, and with Grassley pushing for this prescription drug benefit, spending and power of government will only increase.

I hope Bush will push for more private solutions. So many people think every human problem MUST have a government solution.

I also would like to see more federal programs pushed down to states and communities, so that if the government HAS to be involved, at least it will be at a more local level.

here is the latest from Rush on socialism-lite

I'd ask you conservatives who want to sell out principle on this issue to remember this when the GOP caves to the left on an issue you care about. If "compassion" is going to be defined as gifts, taken from taxpayers and given to non-taxpayers, where does it stop?

Federal domestic spending rose eight percent from 2001 to 2002, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, at a time when the GOP controlled the White House and the U.S. House.

And what happened between 2001 and 2002?

You don't end discrimination by transferring it, and that is no different with economics. Justifying one group giving to another that doesn't contribute to the overall cause is pure socialism. The left insists on "rewarding" people who don't qualify is nothing short of a Welfare payment. Government decides who/how to direct the money and the tax code becomes another means by which to mold society.

Government's primary concern is security and until that is understood this ride will continue.

I agree. I don't like any of the big federal programs, but I'm old enough to remember a time before Medicare and Medicaid were implemented. There were county hospitals and local religious groups that served the poor, and did it well.

And at much less cost to the taxpayer. People did not have an "entitlement" mentality, and healthcare providers did not have to deal with all the extra paper work that is required by the Feds.

Furthermore, doctors and other health care professionals donated more of their own time.

"I also would like to see more federal programs pushed down to states and communities, so that if the government HAS to be involved, at least it will be at a more local level."

I see this tax cut as the first step toward doing that. States and local tax structures can pick up some of the federal tax cut and use it for their local programs.

Democrats seem much better at keeping their voters together no matter what their party does. And, based on what I've seen coming from the Green and Communist parties, they are likely to throw their voters behind Democrats just to regain power they lost.

While I agree that voting for a third party is sending a message on what you want, I still believe the country will move further to the left if we don't keep together in electing Republicans and then reminding them to stick to the agenda.

I want to know why Clinton's tax increase on senior's SS benefits wasn't repealed

I'm totally unaware of Clinton increasing taxes on senior's SS benefits. I would like more details on this if anyone has it. My liberal friends keep telling me how well Clinton did at raising taxes on the 'wealthy'.
