MSNBC Transcript ^ | 10 June 2003

The interview with Bernstein was a riot. He would NOT admitt that Hillary! might have told anything less than the truth. Well, "her truth" anyway...

‘Hardball’ for June 10

Read the complete transcript to Monday’s show
Guests: Carl Bernstein, David Brock, David Bossie, Lisa Caputo, Fred Dicker, Joe Wilson, John Hulsman, Howard Fineman, John Fund

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: I’m Chris Matthews. Let’s play HARDBALL.

For the full half hour tonight, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s memoir, “Living History”, it hit the bookstores earlier today

[snippage]

DAVID BOSSIE, FORMER WHITEWATER INVESTIGATOR: No. Look. Clearly she could not have believed that [Bill's denial of an affair with Lewinsky, up to his confession on August 15th], and anybody in their right mind across America knows that that’s craziness [...]
Look, she knew about Gennifer Flowers. She knew all about the other women, but yet, she woke up, she couldn’t breathe when he was telling her. Yet, two weeks earlier the FBI had been at the White House to collect his DNA.
They knew the story about the blue dress was surfacing. It’s fabrication. She has to stick with the story because if she doesn’t, she becomes part of the defrauding of the American people.
MATTHEWS: You’re studying this case as much as anybody in the world right now, Carl Bernstein. You are the Watergate sleuth. What can you tell us about Hillary’s state of mind between January of 1998 and August of 1998?
CARL BERNSTEIN, JOURNALIST: I think it’s time to stop looking at this whole subject like talk radio. I think that we have to look at this book not as living history, but as a self-portrait, a self-portrait as she would like to be seen. I think we have to quilt quit screaming at each other, and did she know this on this date.
MATTHEWS: Well, she wrote this book, and it’s going to sell millions of copies perhaps, and is it true is all I’m asking?
BERNSTEIN: I think it is her truth. And...
       (CROSSTALK)
       MATTHEWS: What’s that mean?
BERNSTEIN: I think that when one writes a...
MATTHEWS: What’s the difference between her truth and delusion?

BERNSTEIN: That is one that you need to take the facts, line them up against what she is saying. That’s what I hope to do in my book.
MATTHEWS: If it’s demonstrated that she knew about this relationship and she demonstrated that in conversation before August 15, is she a liar?
BERNSTEIN: Well, first of all, certainly what she was saying to friends at the time was did she believe her husband, so I don’t know of any conversations that-that were held, at this point anyhow, in which she said anything to the contrary.
MATTHEWS: She uses the term rumors quite a bit in the book. Rumors. She talks about Gennifer Flowers being a rumor, Paula Jones being a rumor, Juanita Broderick being a rumor. What separates these from the general term, rumor, which would be a third party just talking or a tabloid talking, is in each case these women claimed to have had these relationships with the president, either as a rape victim, a long-term mistress, or in the case of a harassment case, or claimed harassment case, Paula Jones. In each case the women themselves made the accusations publicly on their own.
       BERNSTEIN: Right.
MATTHEWS: This wasn’t investigative reporting. How could she call those rumors?
BERNSTEIN: First of all, Kathleen Willy, who was a major part of this entire case, isn’t even covered in the book. Not even mentioned one time.
       MATTHEWS: Neither is Mark Rich.
BERNSTEIN: Because Ken Starr dismissed her as a noncredible witness.

[END EXCERPTING]

David Brock was a truly horrible and sniveling little cankles licking toady. I won't even subject freepers to his bilge.

I was listening to some woman professor on O'Reilly that whined about "us" being jealous that Hillary might actually have a life and career despite the best efforts of the VRWC. The fact that Hillary brought all this up was lost on her (and went unsaid by B.O.)

What an interesting exchange. Bernstein is actually saying that the reason Hillary doesn't mention Kathleen Willy is because Ken Starr dismissed her as a witness?

Even if true, what does that tell you about Juanita or Paula Jones? I guess it follows that they *were* credible witnesses.

Carl Berstein now is in the camp of subjective truths. Hillary is so naive, loves Bill so much, and wants her marriage to succeed so badly, that she deludes herself into believing what all of AMERICA knows to be a lie.. but, it is HER TRUTH. You got to love this spin machine. Of course this "DELUSIONAL TRUTH" will NOT be mentioned by any of the spinners WHEN SHE RUNS for the POTUS in 08.

Everyone should read the entire transcript for this show, it's really quite funny:

"....MATTHEWS: That wasn’t an interview. That was not an interview. I don’t know what it was.
O’DONNELL: That was entertainment, Chris.
Chris, that was entertainment. That was entertainment television. It’s ridiculous that it appears under the banner of ABC News. It was a filmed-it was a movie. It was-it was nothing real about it.
MATTHEWS: If that was entertainment, I’m going to die right now. That was the most boring hour of my life. Those two women hiding behind a gauze-covered lens to make them both look good was an embarrassment. It was not an interview. I’m sorry. And I hate to tell you because I love entertainment. Lawrence, it wasn’t entertaining.
I thought Barbara, what’s her name, Walters looked like she was falling asleep 2/3 through the interview, didn’t you?
O’DONNELL: And apologizing for every question she asked that had the slightest bit of discomfort in it.
MATTHEWS: I thought it was an interview with Elizabeth II......"

DId she REALLY write a 600 page book? If she DIDN'T, putting her NAME on the front of the book without crediting people who wrote it is immoral as hell.

So the book BEGINS with a huge lie...she didn't write it, she's worse than a tenth grader copying a paper from the web. Some example.

Maybe people shouldn't be calling it a book she wrote...
