Move to Recall Governor Spins California Into Political Turmoil
By Rene Sanchez Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, June 10, 2003; Page A01
LOS ANGELES -- At first, the latest ballot campaign roiling California looked like nothing more than a sideshow. The Republican gadflies promoting it lacked cash and public support. Even many GOP leaders scoffed at their audacious goal. Recall the newly reelected Democratic governor in a state his party dominates? Dream on, they said.
[snip]
Now, amid signs the recall movement is gaining momentum, Democratic and Republican leaders are bracing for a political earthquake in the nation's most populous state, one whose tremors could ripple all the way to the White House.

Does the Post not even attempt to hide their bias any more these days?

She (Feinstein) warned it could lead to the election of a fringe candidate and paralyze the state. Paralysis would be far better than the state of California's current head long lunge into socialism and self destruction.

Funny lines from story:
(not edited... for real!)
5. We're telling voters this is a choice between democracy and anarchy," said Dan Terry, president of the state firefighters union and a leader of the anti-recall campaign
4. "I don't think I've ever seen a political situation so uncertain and with so many potentially bizarre outcomes," said Bill Carrick, a veteran Democratic strategist here. "It's a really strange, eerie thing."
3. Republican leaders say they fear the move could galvanize the state's huge but disconsolate Democratic electorate and ruin President Bush's hopes of attracting many of those voters to his reelection campaign next year
2. For months, Davis and his allies have called the recall a joke, not a threat. Some still say it is not likely to reach the ballot and is being managed by political lightweights
1. "This is the biggest conglomeration of malcontents, misfits and motor mouths I've ever seen," said Garry South, a longtime political adviser to Davis who no longer works for the governor

I think we're fed up with the state of affairs. This recall began at the grassroots. The parties are not driving this. Its an opportunity for Californians to say a resounding "NO" to bigger government and higher taxes.

Liberals are in denial. They haven't seen a political earthquake hit yet and when it does they won't recover from the aftershocks.

Pretty biased. Ms. Sanchez must be on the payroll of the DNC.
If George W. Bush had "done the right thing" last year, and come out to California and helped Simon win the election (instead of pouting because his man didn't get the nomination), then maybe we wouldn't have to be going through this recall right now.
Thanks for your help, George!! Now it's up to us REAL Conservatives here in California to do your heavy lifting, and get this idiot out of the governor's mansion. Don't like it?? Deal with it!! Where were you last year during the election - when we needed you??
If Bush is upset by this recall effort, he has only himself to blame!!

That damn RINO Gerald Parsky. If he had his way, there'd be no recall election. Thank heaven we didn't listen to him and the losers who've shut us out of the executive branch offices in California.

how close are they to getting the recall done? The would be a WONDERFUL drain of Democrat party financial resources. First the clintoons suck the money then the kalifornians.

Things in Kalifornistan must be pretty serious if the (needsa)Washington(com)Post is saying the GOP is even against the recall. I don't believe for a minute that the comPost is concerned about GWB's reelection chances.

LOL! I don't care who takes the job, as they will be sitting in a seat that's still smoking, positioned over a trap door.
Send out the message to these corrupt moronic politicians. If we all ran our household budgets like this, we would all be pushing shopping carts down main street looking for aluminum cans.
Recall the SOB, and send him by to NY where he came from, on a trailways bus.
And now Bush is sending $15,000,000,000 to Africa? Yikes!
To: Grampa Dave
Voted for both. Alas, Bush is a garden variety social democrat, not like my favorite politician Ron Paul of Texas. Dick Cheney solidified the conservative wing in time honored practice. By comparison Gore tried to placate his left wing himself, and picked Lieberman to appeal to moderates.

Typical whining from a third party loser. You guys can't even elect a congressman without making him into a RINO.

Honestly, I don't think the guys in Sacramento (Dem or GOP) get it.
The voters in California have been economically rained on for 12 years. We're really ticked.
Our families are getting massacred.
Our kids are debt before they're born.
And, the liberals are still thinking it's OK to bankrupt everyone around them.
Their goose is cooked.
