Prime Mister Ariel Sharon, speaking at a special service for the Border Police in Latrun Wednesday night, said that Israel would continue to chase and fight Palestinian terrorists "to the death".
Reacting to Wednesday afternoon's terrorist attack on a Jerusalem bus which killed 16 and wounded more than 100, Sharon said that the victims were innocents, and that their only 'crime' was being Jewish.
"Israel will continue to chase the Palestinian terrorist organizations and their leaders and fight them to the death.
They are the initiators, the trainers and the senders of terrorists whose sole aim is the murder of Jews, " said Sharon.
He added that Israel still hoped to take the path of the 'road map' to peace, and added that his government would take "every measure to safeguard the security of the people of Israel."

He added that Israel still hoped to take the path of the 'road map' to peace This is not Sharon. This is US pressure.

I'm glad that the Israelis got a couple of Hamas terrorists, but this tit for tat response will never stop them. What they need to do is come back an hour later and carpet bomb the hundreds of terrorist supporters who inevitably throng around the site of the strike. Carpet bomb their funerals. Then come back and bomb some more the next day.

Chase the terrorists?
GOOD.
Israel needs to do so, without fail and without ceasing.
And the rest of the world needs to STFU about it.
Just wish our leaders would figure it out.

Yep. Israel isn't tough enough with the terrorists. It wants to be. US pressure won't allow it.

Should they have killed Baruch Goldstein's family, or for that matter torn down his house? If Israel wants to maintain its reputation as being a relatively free and fair state, they have to be consistent.
Sharon's on the right track, work for peace and give hell to those who try to sabotage it. Now if he'd only start treating disruptive settler demonstrators the way we treated the street-blocking peaceniks during the gulf war.

I don't think so. What they DO need to do, however, and in my humble opinion, is to target the very highest political AND "religious" leaders of the terror organizations. This includes Yassin. This includes Arafat. (Although for maximum political and propaganda effect, Arafat should be seized and tried, including for his crimes and theivery against Palestinians, instead of being killed.)

Why does Sharon want to be such a troublemaker?
I hear President Bush has a whiz-bang, Road Map peace plan that doubles as the sheet music for the complete Peter, Paul, and Mary catalogue.

Dear Prime Minister Sharon,
You do what is best for your country and your people. Be diplomatic when you can, and kill when you must.
Dont worry about GWB's dplomacy efforts with the road map - he has to show no preference to make the liberals and the rest of the world happy.
I am behind you. The majority of USA is behind you - It will all work out in the end.
You are doing the right thing - protecting your people and killing terrorists.

During X42's first term the Israeli's expelled ALL the top leaders of Hamas.
There was world wide condemnation including from our very own president. This led to Israel relenting and allowing the terrorists back into the country.

IOW they need to sacrifice their morality, their civility, and basically every respect in which they are superior to and more worthy than their enemies. How so? From the films I've seen the crowds at the gatherings I've mentioned are terrorists and their supporters. IMHO Israel has the right to attack armed terrorists wherever they are, and if non-terrorists are present, that is justifiable collateral damage. If they don't want to be killed, civilans need to stay away from the terrorists. What I propose is less harsh than what the allies found acceptable in WWII.

Israel strikes back
Bush, UN, et al say they are deeply disappointed with Israel.

Quit blaming the United States! If Israel wants to go after all the terrorist, then do it. What is holding you back -- that $3+ billion in American taxpayer dollars per year and more?
Just found out that 1/6th of our foreign aid goes to Israel and we have given them $93b+ and that is billion over the years and that is a conservative figure.
So when you take that kind of money, you subject yourself to "advice" from the United States. Tell the US to stuff it with our money and go it alone! Choice seems simple!
You cannot blame the United States when Israel does have an option. If Sharon didn't like the roadmap, then he should have told OUR PRESIDENT that Israel would not be needing money or advice on how to handle terrorist. Instead Sharon went to Jordan and made nice with everyone. Cannot have it both ways!
The United States has continually stood up for Israel at the UN, but that seems lost in all of this!

While I fully support Israels right to defend herself, Sharon and HIS government should be acting in the best interest of Israel- and not waiting to see what we say and do.

THe State dept. was going to place sanctions on Israel. Israel would lose US veto in UN, "peacekeepers" would be sent in. I am sorry to say that Bush pressured Sharon to accept the roadmap and Israel couldn't do anything about it. I suspect Bush made a deal with Blair that if he goes to war in Iraq, he would push Israel to accept something with the Arabs, sothat Blair can be saved in Europe. The US has a lot of levy.

The President's statement today ......
THE PRESIDENT: Today there was a terrible bombing in Jerusalem. I send my heartfelt condolences to those who suffered and lost life. It is clear there are people in the Middle East who hate peace; people who want to kill in order to make sure that the desires of Israel to live in secure and peace don't happen; who kill to make sure the desires of the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority and others of a peaceful state, living side-by-side with Israel, do not happen.
To the people in the world who want to see peace in the Middle East, I strongly urge all of you to fight off terror, to cut off money to organizations such as Hamas, to isolate those who hate so much that they're willing to kill to stop peace from going forward. I strongly condemn the killings, and I urge and call upon all of the free world, nations which love peace, to not only condemn the killings, but to use every ounce of their power to prevent them from happening in the future.
