I have an alternate-history novel on that approximate topic. It's called 1945, and it was written by William R. Forstchen and Newt Gingrich (really!). In it, the US stayed out of the European theater, Germany controls almost all of Europe except for Britain, and Hitler launches a raid on Oak Ridge. Good book, but I've been awaiting the promised sequel for several years.

Aha. Seems they never found a publisher for the sequel.

Dear NovemberCharlie,

I have a copy of that book also. Since I live close to Oak Ridge, it is interesting to speculate what could have happened.

Very good book I thought

Even better, get hold of "Lightining in the Night" written in 1940. It was in serial form in Liberty Magazine(IIRC) Predicted the wars end by A-Bomb and a Nazi invasion of USA.

You'd probably like the alternative history woven by Harry Turtledove starting with How Few Remain (Second war between the states) and winding through the defeat of the Confederacy, England\Canada, France and Japan by the US and Germany in the Great War series.

Forstchens "Lost Regiment" Series is a romp too, more in the sci-fi alternative arena though.

If you're interested in gaming a couple of scenarios, if you kick major butt as the Germans in Panzer General II in the Blitzkrieg Campaign you eventually end up invading England and then on to the US landing at Saratoga and a final engagement with the defenders of Oak Ridge. Two situations unfold, an early and a late. Its WAY harder to beat England and the US with Pzkfw III's and IV's in an earlier run than later with Tiger II's, Panther G's, Jets, and self propelled howitzers, though the Americans have the P-80 and the computer fights American forces like we're possesed :)
