Miami radio show hosts make prank call to Castro By Madeline Baró Diaz Miami Bureau Posted June 18 2003 MIAMI · Two morning radio show hosts who won the hearts of many in South Florida's Venezuelan community with a prank phone call to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez thrilled Cuban-Americans on Tuesday with an apparent prank call to Cuban leader Fidel Castro. In the recorded phone call, replayed several times on the air and on television, hosts Enrique Santos and Joe Ferrero of Spanish-language El Zol, FM 95.7 used snippets of the conversation they had with Chávez in January to fool Cuban functionaries into connecting them with Castro himself -- or at least someone who sounded exactly like him. Posing as an aide to Chávez, Ferrero told those he reached with the Cuban government that Chavez had left a suitcase with "sensitive documents" at a hotel when he and Castro were in Argentina recently. After several minutes, Castro said he was "informed and fine" with the matter of the suitcase at which time Santos got on the line and started berating Castro -- or someone who sounded like him. "Are you fine with the s--- you've done on the island, assassin?" Santos said. "You fell for it just like Hugo Chávez." That prompted a profanity-laced tirade from Castro in which he called the radio host several names. "For the first time in history we've managed to have Fidel Castro react in a way, I think, no one has heard him react before," Santos said. A spokesman with the Cuban Interests Section in Washington could not be reached for comment Tuesday evening.

I've heard the original call to Chavez, and it is hilarious!! I was looking for the audio for this call as well. If anyone has it (naturally, it will be in Spanish), I'd love a link. Thanks.

I wish that someone would make a prank call to Belafonte, Asner, and Glover, pretending to be Castro.

I would love to hear their reactions when "Castro" talks about cracking the whip on dissidents.
