Once upon a time, a long time ago, I was the Honor Council Chairman and later, the Chief Justice, of the VPI Civilian Honor court. We were investigating the athletics department. They were sending out ringers to take SAT for less than bright high school seniors who were good on the field but lousy in the class room. A late night visit by some jocks to our penthouse room in O'Shaughnessy put and end to the investigation and many other things. Needless to say, I have had a very poor opinion about VaTech athletics every since then.

Post any documentation that you have to PROVE that Casteen was pressured or forced into lobbying for VT........Every report I have seen says that UVA was behind adding VT asask and you shall recieve
Of course that is just one of many articles. I do realize our beloved Pres. Castrateened Turkey was for Vippy Sue getting in, but without the pols twisting his arm, he would have used common sense (no documented proof that that exist in his pinhead though) and gone with the flow and voted Martha in. Even GT, who loves Martha dearly, will vote "yes" for expansion w/ out Vippy Sue.
I myself was somewhat neuteral on Martha, even slightly in her favor, before the pols of VA joined that filthy turkeyspit lawsuit. Court ordered conference memberships, I can't believe actual FReepers can support that.
Now back to Castrateen, being a former Pres. of UConn hardly makes his opinion objective as to whats in UVa's best interest (that's UVa, not UVA, thank you very much.)
A huge majority of alums and supporters want the expansion. The dirtball Castrateen is going against what they want.
Suspicions have also been raised here that since Castrateen Turkey is in Europe, as is an unescourted Mrs. MarkyMark Warner, that some other payoff may be being made.
Of course, being the gentleman that I am, I would not make such an accusation w/out proof, I am merely pointing out what others have said.

The lawyers are going to have a ball on this one. It will be fun to watch VT defend themselves against themselves in front of the judge. They may have to call Push Me Pull You from Dr. Suess as a witness.

The Hoos have been sniveling ever since Mark Warner bitch-slapped them for their band's behaviorThat argument won't get you anywhere AP, anything that helped finally bring an end to that outdated non-funny Pep Band was supported by 90% of the 'Hoos. We are embassed by them and hate them for that reason. Good riddance.
We have always been jealous of schools with good bands.
Hey wait a minute, Martha has two good bands, and we have none. I think we should sue to get one of them moved to Charlottesville. It's just not fair, somebody get me Jackboot Kilgore's phone number, the government needs to do something about this.
Although, now that the Nutless Barnyard Fowl are in bed with the lawyers and politicians, now out of bed with the lawyers and politicians, in bed with the lawyers and politicians, now out of bed with the lawyers and politicians, or wherever they are by the time I finish this sentence, we should bring the Pep Band back for one farewell skit.
I believe even they could come up with something funny about the backstabbing Vippy Sue-Politician-Lawyer axis of evil.

Whiny Wahoos are as fun to listen to as whiny DemocratsHow Clintonesque, typical DimRAT spin. Accuse the accuser of what you are guilty of. UVa wasn't the weeny whose feelings were hurt and called in the pols and lawyers.

Come on. The Cavs couldn't beat Tech on the gridiron, so they resorted to the smoky backroom. Now its blown up in their faces, because the net result could be Tech in the ACC, in which case the Cavs take one more step to the conference cellar. Of course they're bawling.
For myself, I'd rather see the Big East (already the NCAA's strongest conference, and due to get stronger) remain intact. If the ACC is going to gut the Big East, however, then Tech is much better off in the ACC. (The Big East wouldn't last another season without Miami, Syracuse, etc. anyway; that's what you've been counting on.)
But now, at least, you can pretend it was all Tech's idea in the first place to bolt the Big East for the ACC. If it comforts you on the crapulous morning after another mauling at the hands of the Hokies, I won't begrudge that.

Actually, all your story alleges is that Casteen was pressured to vote against the merger if Tech wasn't included. However, it does say that he wanted Tech (and lobbied for them) in all along. So it doesn't sound like he had to be lobbied very hard...
To: Trajan88
Well, you can drink yourself into a stupor. That's about it, IIRC.

So it doesn't sound like he had to be lobbied very hard...No, he wasn't.
Casteen's loyalties are to Warner and the pols, not UVa. Judging from his Northeast origins and life in academia, he is in all probability an active Democrat.
No question, Casteen is on Tech's side. He wants Tech in.
You have to admire his strategy, though, it would have worked perfectly if the pols hadn't made all that noise.
Whoever made the final decision to join the lawsuit screwed things up for Tech.
But the Hokies should, as one of our local sports radio pundits said, and I paraphrase, "send Casteen's wife flowers, take them to dinner, shake his hand, cut his grass, whatever he wants."
This has been an interesting, if ugly, month though. Something to think about besides recruiting.

Reminds me of my fave bumper sticker - "Women at VMI? What's next, men at UVA?"
