THIS FAMILY IS LEAVING THIS GOLDEN STATE FOR MORE FERTILE GROUNDS

I have sold out the shares of my A/C company, Sold our beautiful home in Pleasanton and pulling out all investments from Kalifornia. I was born and raised in this State and have become disgusted with the way every thing has become upside down and backwards in this State. When we cross State line into Arizona on 6-24-03 you will be able to hear the door slam behind us and trust me, it won't hit us in the ass on the way out.
It's funny watching the tax&spenders of this State trying to work out the budget woes along with the recall efforts against Gray (all smoke and mirrors, Fluff and Stuff). The plan is to triple the vehicle registration fees, raise every tax that can be imagined then invent tax's that haven't been, cut school/social funding and now they have implemented a real estate tax at 3 1/3% for non-primary resident property owners efective Jan 1st 2003 (Ca tax code 593-C.) Jan. 1st 2004 will include code changes that will include primary resident property owners. Research this, We just signed off title and had to file a real estate withholding certificate form 593-C
The tax&spenders can never find spending that is un-necessary or programs with bloated budgets to cut. School budgets are slashed but the state spending keeps going up in other departments. The leftists keep coming up with more warm&fuzzy spending proposals & their friends in Sacramento raise the taxes on the workers & business's. Now employers & employee's are fleeing from this "Golden State??" to Idaho, Arizona, Texas, Utah, Oregon, Washington & Nevada leaving fewer taxpayers left to pay the growing tax burden. After the jobs have left & the workers have left, who will be left to pay the taxes? The only ones left to pay the taxes will be what's left, the "LEFT".
California may still be saved, but there is going to be a major wake up call before that happens, I am just glad we won't be here when that happens.

You'll be back, they always do. And when you do come back, you'll kiss the ground and thank the lord Jesus. I've seen it happen so many times before with family and friends, it's almost becoming a cliche'.
Problem is, when you do return, the equity build-up from your out-of-state housing is never as great as CA (except for NYC/DC), so you'll have to accept a slightly less standard of living. However, you'll be so happy to be back that you won't care.

...and realizes he's going to be paying TRIPLE for that tag because he tarried a few weeks ...Hey! VOA, how much to tag a pick-up in KA? I mean, with all the inspections, fees, property tax and the plate itself. Here in I-O-Way it's a flat ninety one bucks, and it's OK to be a month late on renewal. No inspections, no property tax and a income tax that is lower than Illinois' 3.9% flat rate (which is waaaay lower than Missouri's 6.9% after the first nine grand).

Don't quit. The system doesn't change when people cut and run.

I fled seven months ago. Also a native, born and raised in the Bay Area, and I finally just couldn't stand it anymore. We sold our condo in Orange County for a ridiculously high price and bought a beautiful home in Washington for the same price. I take the train to work and have a beautiful view of Eliot Bay from my cubicle neighbor's window.
Go back? Not on your life. I didn't leave anything there I need to go back for.

Not always. I can't imagine any inducement strong enough to get me back and I have been gone a long time.

If things get too bad in California, all the leftists and socialists will soon be moving out too ---they'll go to other states, especially the ones with easy welfare and ruin them too. All those California drivers licenses that were so easy to obtain can be transferred in other states. I think you can run but the problems will follow.

Good luck to you.
My family of three left LA in 94 for Phoenix. My wife is born and raised in Malibu, first time she lived anywhere but there. Anyway the heat got to us and we moved back to LA after a year. We were shocked at the rapid downhill slide, everywhere we looked. We realized it was a lost cause and moved north. Been here (Puget Sound Area) since 96, and love it. We do return to LA to visit the few friends who remain there and always disappointed to see the constant decline of the quality of life in Southern Cal.

The problem is that California has natural resources no one can take with them--climate & geography.
Where are you going to find oceanfront land in AZ?
My wife & I both have reasonably well-paid jobs in CA, and not that many years left to retirement. We are sort of stuck here.
If real estate values hold up for just a few more years we will move out of state when we are no one's wage slaves.
AZ looks good, but how is the summer heat?
OR looks reasonable, except for the liberal politics. How have they survived so long with no sales tax?
Winter in AZ, summer in OR or WA? Maybe. If we can afford two houses. Possible if CA real estate doesn't crash.
