Maybe others more knowledgable than me can connect the dots because I am not sure I can carry the weight of this food fight alone. That said, let me point out gay marriages are simply a measure of how far we have collectively drifted from any concept of how a free society works and what mechanisms are are important to that society.
It should not be a surprise that once government has inserted itself as the one ton gorilla in a three way contract between two individuals and a bureaucracy it will then proceed to define the terms of that contract in any way it sees fit.
What does surprise me is that more Pastors and others of faith cannot coherently explain what traditional marriage is and ought to be.
Historically, marriage has been akin to a sacrament consummated before God and witnessed by a congregation in religous setting such as a church or synagogue. The Catholic Church, for example, calls it the "Sacrament" of Marriage.
At some point a movement began to have all births at central facilities known as hospitals(ostensibly for hygenic reasons) which removed the record of those births from the family Bible and the local Church and centralized Birth Records at the Government Facility known as the Courthouse.
It was a natural progression to then keep a record of marriages at the same location-the Courthouse.
Soon, a civil marriage was the only requirement for people to achieve legitimacy as honorable members of Society.
As far as I can tell, marriage has always been a combination of sacrament and political and economic union.
In a society where nearly everyone is expected to have a "job" (as opposed to employment or work)and that "job" automatically includes "withholding" for Social Security and other taxes as well as restrictions on where and how you can save or invest your money it should surprise no one that elements of Society expect access to the same endowments that are currently imposed on the "honorable" members of that Society.
The important question is how did we paint ourselves into this corner and when will our presumed moral Leaders begin to lead us out of the wilderness?
Step one is for all Churches and Religious Entities to immediately renounce their 501(3)(c) status.
Until they do that they serve Mammon and Government and not God and have no room to quarrel with "same sex" marriages.
It is part and parcel of a larger problem and will not be fixed until the larger problem is fixed.
Excuse me while I go scramble into my asbestos suit.
Best regards,

One of my college friends developed a small gadget that kept track of satellite channels being watched on a TV set , and he installed the secret device on his dads TV set.
Much to his surprise, his dad watched a lot of lesbian porn!
His dad is a Protestant minister often railing against those disgusting homosexuals :-)

And it shows women enjoying sex outside the presense of some guy with a big wallet. Plenty of women enjoy sex outside the presense of some guy with a big wallet. That doesn't necessarily mean that it's with women.

Even today, the average person still cringes when they see two men mouth-kissing one another. " And gets off on seeing two women doing the same thing. Amusing.
Men kissing men and women kissing women is equally abhorent to me. Lesbians kissing is a huge turn off. Yuuuchhh!!
Just because your average guy is perverted by society doesn't mean we all are.

Actually, homosexuality is virtually as old as time itself; reading both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible will illustrate this point. The books of Leviticus and Romans have examples of this. The only difference between then and now was that people who engaged in such behavior were often put to death.
According to Charles Higham, author of "Merchant of Dreams-Louis B. Mayer, M.G.M., and the Secret Hollywood", Rock Hudson wasn't the only gay actor living in the closet during the 'good old days.' Several silent screen actors, Ramon Navarro and William Haines were homosexuals. Haines was 'outed' during the '30s, and dismissed from M.G.M., later having a successful career as an interior decorator. There are also allegations that Charles Laughton was also gay, and that his wife, Elsa Lancaster, was a Lesbian. Sadly most of these rumors usually come out long after the people in question are dead. That's another story for another day. But this only proves that perversion has been among us for quite some time.
-Regards, T.

Talk about a double standard. If it's okay for the goose, why is it not okay for the gander?

I have no personal knowldedge regarding its accuracy, but again, it's before the Sixties.
Thank you, T Lady. ;-)

Cathryn, I don't really mean to call you mean or little. I just lost my head.
It's just that sometimes I get frustrated because it's so hard to explain all this to someone who wasn't here in the Sixties. You just have no idea how much damage was done to this country by those Rolling Beatles. ;-)

And gets off on seeing two beautiful
women doing the same thing. Amusing. Had to correct that .... strange as it may be ..... why do men like that ?
From what I've read about history, it almost seems like that was more socially acceptable for some reason.

I think most guys inject the fantasy of a three-way into the picture while watching lez porn. It is also interesting how gorgeous the lesbos are in porn movies, but in real life they are usually dogs. Of course, we all know that the ones in film and on websites are just paid actors/models and probably quite straight. I'd suspect it takes a lot less cash to make most women perform lesbian acts than it would to make a straight guy go homo. Not sure there is enough money out there for me to do that.
A fellow coworker and I were discussing this very thing and I also said, "Yeah, and the extra danger is... what if you end up liking it?" Hah! Scary...

Ahhh, homosexuality, purgatory on Earth, that can end, at best with a shortened lifespan and an incomplete realization of the spirituality that is associated with one given form. Harmony rejected: Hell accepted, long live the queen!!!
