SACRAMENTO (AP) - Nearly 370 California Highway Patrol officers were sent notices Tuesday that they could be laid off this fall because of the state's dire fiscal condition.

The surplus notices, a bureaucratic step needed before actual layoffs can be imposed, are being issued this month to nearly 10,000 state workers at more than 70 of the state's 150 departments and agencies.

They should send notices until the total is $38 billion starting with all the new hires this year and the 28,000 hired after the "hiring freee" went into effect last year.

After that, close the departments and offices that are no longer needed and call it surplus for future bad years!

Does anyone think this could change the minds of Tim Robbins and his followers who are trying to convince to get Davis to not cut into the Arts program? After all, Art is more important than peoples jobs.....

If a Pubbie gets elected, the first thing I would advise him to do, is to let contracts out to have private companies run the prisons, and thus get out of those sweetheart contracts Davis signed with the unionized prison guards to buy votes. At present, the guards make more than teachers. Just a red meat thought, to show I have it within me.

So Davis wants to show he is doing something, but it isn't likely he will!

I was in the DMV office yesterday and saw a private Security Officier!

And the DMV people were working hard, hordes of people getting processed!

Why is it that every time a state or city government has overextended themselves (comitted to spending too much of OUR money), they always cut the things that are important, such as police and firefighters. Why don't they cut out all the B.S. spending programs thay have put in place, like arts and excessive welfare giveaways first? I think they are trying to make the cuts painful so we'll all be willing to give up more of OUR money to make up the difference.

In the meantime, California has been dramatically increasing its inmate population over the last decade.

It's going to be interesting. ;-)

They'll try to convince the public of their poverty by cutting essential services first, but they won't touch Fish and Game, much less the governor's porcine staff.

Typical Slave Party move.

Now this is getting funnier than sh%& I swear to God, my state may just fall back to the grand state it use to be before the liberals came from the East and destroyed it with Unions and deviance. Out of my state liberals, out of my state. A poor California without Easterners is better than a rich California ran by liberals.

They've been arresting everyone to stock the jails for tax revenues in boondock towns. I hope this helps to close down some of the prison complexes around the state and bring some kind of normalcy to incarceration in CA.

That's about to change, said department spokesman Russ Heimerich: notices are being sent to about 2,500 prison guards and parole officers.

California really is getting to be just like Mexico. They could do what they do there ---pay cops very little, give them a uniform and let them go around collecting bribes for their incomes.

Well, we'll see. You know, those mandatory minimum sentences, three strike proposals, etc. really play well with the voters. Maybe there'll be a need to start finding more exceptions, etc. LOL.

Somehow, it'll all work out.

"I think they are trying to make the cuts painful so we'll all be willing to give up more of OUR money to make up the difference."

I'm not going to sweat the cutting of officers that don't do much more than write tickets all day and are as much a pest as a boon

They can come talk to me when they start cutting real police--you know, the kind that get shot at every day and have to deal with the bottom of humanity's barrel on an hourly basis.
