NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has developed a capability for manufacturing a key element in laser systems.
Iranian officials said Teheran has succeeded in manufacturing crystals used in producing solid lasers. They said this makes Iran one of the few countries in the world with such capability.
Fereydoun Soltan-Moradi, deputy director of the Laser Research Center, said the crystals form the basis of the functioning of lasers. The center is affiliated with Iran's Atomic Energy Organization.
"The substance in which such lasers function is either the crystals, or the solid substances," Soltan-Moradi told the official Iranian Irna news agency. "Among such lasers I can refer to the neodymium laser, which was produced at this center for the first time in Iran. This laser is used both in industries, and for medical purposes."
