Armoured tornado camera destroyed - by a tornado
A camera specially designed to take pictures of the inside of a tornado has been destroyed - by a tornado.
National Geographic constructed the armoured device and placed it in the path of a storm near Manchester, South Dakota.
But it was blown away within seconds when the tornado hit. The remains were found stuck in mud more than 430 feet away.
All the device's glass ports were smashed and the cameras inside were ruined, National Geographic said.
The film was being sent back for processing just in case, but officials said they doubted it captured any images.

If you think that's bad you should see what a tornado can do to a witch.

Manchester, SD no longer exists. It's gone, for good. 60 tornadoes touched down in SD in one night. Could it be Gods revenge for unleashing Daschle on an unsuspecting nation?

What about driving an M1A1 directly in the path?

Back to the CAD program. (I was going to say "Back to the drawing board" but it has, alas gone the way of the slide rule.)

Whose genius idea was this anyway? GLASS ports? Haven't they seen previous footage of how tornados eat glass?
The only way it will work (MAYBE) is if they bury it in the ground and have it watch as a tornado goes over . . . but that's like shooting ducks through your chimney . . . .

What about driving an M1A1 directly in the path? You'd get an airborne M1A1 rather quickly...
To: Chancellor Palpatine
I know...
but an f4 has 207-260 MPH winds and tosses normal cars around like nothing. The M1 might make it - but I wouldn't want to be inside...

Why don't they make another camera and then immediately crush it in a 10 ton compactor?

Clean up in corn isle 4!

Very good! I was kind of hoping for the "suck zone" quote, but not bad! ;-)
To: RoughDobermann
There's a bunch of great quotes from that movie. I think the "Cows" comes in a close second to "OK, we've got debris. Debris !?"

I'm worried about VICE President Rodham-Clinton. Think of it:
She keeps he promise not to run for president in '04
Two years and one day into her term the first slotter gets arkincided
Under Article XXII, she can still run for two full terms as the incumbent
The Hillary! Decade begins
At the end of the Hillary! Decade there is a National Emergency "temporarily" delaying the elections
Under the pressure of the National Emergency, the 2nd and 22nd amendments are repealed...
To: SoDak
Don't you think it would be more interesting to have pics from the camera getting sucked into the tornado, and bounced around? Just make the thing so it can withstand the bouncing, but don't make it stationary??
To: rattrap
It does not pay to mess with 'Mother Nature'.
You build it, and she will eventually find a way to destroy it.
I hear a refrain from Kansas........... Dust in the Wind.

Yeah, you would think they could formulate some sort of plexiglass ball that would record the whole thing.
