Yesterday, June 25th, 2003, I was sworn in as an American citizen. I have held a US green card since 1989 and I started the process to become a citizen last September. It feels great to finally become a full fledged, Red, White and Blue US citizen.
The Oath of Allegiance
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
I gladly renounced my former Canadian citizenship and am grateful to become a citizen of the greatest country on earth!!
Pledge of Allegiance
I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
My wife (natural born in the US) and I have been living in Hawaii for the last 8 1/2 years running our own small family business. I am excited about the prospects of participating in upcoming elections for the first time. It drove me crazy during the Clinton years not to be able to cast my vote against him.
This will be a very special 4th of July celebration for me this year.

My mother, a first generation American, heard a recent statistic that said the most patriotic group of Americans, are those that are raised as the first generation born in America. I think this might be because the children of immigrants learn on a continuous basis that their parents sacrificed and chose to come to America, where life could be better, and freedom would help them prosper.

Congratulations my fellow American, Welcome to this thing we call America, it's not a place or property we claim as our own. It is an idea that we hold dear called liberty, we all share in the belief that everyone is entitled to it and we are willing to sacrifice blood and treasure for those who don't
God Bless America
