Doug "MyFavorteHeadache" Maher called me from the hospital tonight. He was experiencing back and chest pain today and decided to have it checked out.... turns out that he has a blood clot in his lung that could possibly move to his heart. They have him all tubed up with all kinds of drugs and blood thinners, and he's understandably a bit shook up as this is the same affliction that killed his dad at the age of 37. He'll probably be on blood thinners for he rest of his life.

For those who don't know Doug, he's a great guy all around. We're in a local organization together but our activism goes back several years.

The above pic (that's Doug on the left about to shove his sign up the stinky Rat's a$$) was taken in West Palm during the near riots of the 2000 elections, when we (and several other FReepers) nearly had our heads handed to us by angry Rats. This photo wound up on the front page of the NY Times, NY post, Stars and Stripes just to name a few. It was also featured on a 2 page spread in USA Today and was in numerous papers around the world. I happend to pull this one off the Chandigarth Tribune in India, where it's still up to this day.

As I said, Doug is a great guy and an A+ American. Say a prayer for him, even though I know God is going to take good care of him.

Wow, I recognize that photo... If I remember correctly, it landed on the front pages of many newspapers nationwide during the FL Recount.

I had the same thing (pulmonary embolism) in December. Mine was the result of a broken ankle, the location where the clot formed and moved up to the right lung.

MFH and I are both lucky in having chest pain warnings. This is not always the case.

Blood thinners do the trick and he should be fine.

He will have a scan in about half a year. Clots don't show up in x-rays, nor can they be dissolved with medication. They are naturally absorbed in the system after a period of time. I had my scan last week and the embolism is gone, and the lung is clear as a bell.

I'm still a little wobbly because an embolism is a trauma to the entire system, but this will pass with exercise to rebuild strength.
