DALLAS -- The U.S. Justice Department is investigating the role of federal officials in last month's hunt for Texas lawmakers who fled to Oklahoma to block passage of a redistricting bill.
A department inspector general on June 4 began probing the use of Justice Department funds in the search, said Paul Martin, a deputy inspector general. The department is looking into the roles of the FBI, U.S. Marshals and federal prosecutors.
"This is a review of what, if any, Department of Justice, resources were expended in connection with this matter," Martin told The Dallas Morning News for Friday's editions.
