Kathy Eder teaches the class ‘‘Morality and Social Justice’’ at Bellarmine, an all-boys Catholic high school in San Jose

The parents of these children need to take them out of this class and find someone who teaches real truth and history. What Ms. Elder is doing is unconscionable; she is abusing young minds with distorted opinions of her own. I would have my child out of there in a heartbeat!

If there are any children of Military families in her class, I hope those parents show this woman some social justice for her stupid opinions; she is sick!

Our sons attended a Christian Bros. high school. A few years back a religion teacher had a gay friend speak to her class about relationships, and allowed him to bring in his "wedding" pictures. No notice was given the parents and needless to say there were a number of outraged folks who mounted a campaign for her dismissal. There was an equal number of parents who supported her retention. The controversy resulted in a fullscale review of the religion dept. by the Christian Bros. themselves, the installation of an overseer to conduct ongoing audits of the dept, and the resignation of the principal.

What got the ball rolling was the initial contact with the Archbishop at the time - a new feller to the area, name of George. His response was overwhelmingly encouraging and supportive of those of us calling for her ouster and no doubt fostered the Brothers expeditious involvement. Unfortunately we lost him to Chicago, where he's now a Cardinal. Great guy...
